Hey everyone, i've been lurking these boards for about 6 months, drooling over a WRX STI. Well a few weeks ago my old car, a Saturn, blew up and it was time to aquire a new vehicle. an STI is a bit out of my range due to price and insurance, so i managed to get a 04 WRX for a pretty good deal. Some of you may know me from other places, i'm a pretty active member of MNSportCompacts.net and a pretty serious AutoCrosser. I'm also a member of the Minnesota Autosports Club. Hope to get out to some of the club meets!
Welcome! Nice to see some lurkers step out from the weeds. I hope to see you at meets and gatherings!
I lurk on MNsportcompacts, and I remember reading tons of your posts. I guess the all-mighty insurance company wrote you a check for the Saturn? Nice WRX by the way!
welcome [edit} just saw Shane driving along Marschall Rd in Shakopee... waved him over and said Hi... suprise surprise he actually stopped..ha ha ha good to meet ya inperson... drop byt he store anytime you want.. next to Cub in SHakopee... Also do you live out that way you were driving??
omg shane, u have a WRX now?! no more saturn! i knew i recognized ur name on here. ur from mnsc. welcome man!
Welcome! I've seen you at a ton of Autocrosses. Kyle is right you should make your car a STX car along with us. We need more people.
Well thanks for the warm welcome everyone! so for a few question awnsers.... I made those magnetic numbers. i bought 10 Square feet of magnetic material from a sign shop down in apple valley (2x5 ft) and printed out templates on my computer using photoshop. after a few hours of work with an exacto knife i have numbers that Freaking rock. cost me about 50 bux for the magnetic material and about 3 for an exacto. Their 16" tall and have 8" class numbers. Nope, never have run any AARRF events, and frankly i don't plan to anytime soon. the fear of me banging up my only means of transportation is too high. i'd like to get into it, but i'll probably finish the wrx, then purchase a miata or something to build into a Road Racer. Thats a LOOOOONG ways away. As for STX, thats where i plan to be. i'm going to play in stock class for the rest of the season and burn through the ****ty RE92s while i stock pile parts. future plans include 245 Wide Kuhmo MX or Advan Neovas, 17x8 wheels, and JIC FLT-A2s. Hopefully by the beginging of next season my WRX will be a worthy competitor, or even, something to fear. =D
you're gona daily drive the JIC's? Man, you must really want to win! Daily driving the Spec C RA's is brutal enough for me...

meh, it's not the little bumps, its the big ones at speed that make the suspension so annoying to live with. It doesnt flext much when it hits a pothole and i am trying to baby the wheels and tires it has on it right now. te bouncing up and down i could care less about. I can imagine every day with jic's, especially in the winter would get aggravating just baging the car so hard against potholes. I don't know how safe i'd feel with a very stiffly sprung car with a big rear bar in the snow either.

I am running 9k/9k springs, custom JICs, on the RS and that is stiff! You can jump on my door sill and the only thing that moves are the tires, they just shimmy around quite a bit. Granted, the RS is now at ~2715 (without driver) so there could be a weight difference, but running as a daily driver? Enjoy. Also, if anyone wants a run in the RS at an AutoX, let me know. If I am not in a hurry to get out, I could let anyone know what it feels like during buck runs. If you get sick, not my problem, just make sure it isn't on/in the car! I have made 2 people puke after getting out from a few track day laps (one at Dakota and one at St Cloud). }
