I am new to the this forum (I think less than a week) and a new Subaru WRX owner. I used to own a VW Jetta TDI and found the TDIClub forum very useful. Especially as I went through a number of warranty problems with the fuel system. Experience from others and advice was helpful. How to get techincal bulletins as well which ones were useful and others that not. These forums are another reason the Internet can be so useful.

Many people I work with are very much into automotive design, upgrading, tuning, and hot rodding. Some have taken late model Mitsubitshi's and Subaru's and tuned them up by modifying exhaust and ECU related improvements. Some race 60's muscle cars while others do serious restoration from 32 Fords to 70's Fararri's. A number of the more technically experienced people thought highly of the Subaru WRX. Myself, I am Electical Engineer so my expertise is limited.

I really like driving this car. Going from 11.7 seconds 0 to 60 and now to 5.7 seconds was more exciting than I first thought it might be. My wife, she has driven it once, is planning to get up earlier than me to get to the WRX first! The last car I owned that I really liked to drive was a Mazda RX2 rotary engine. A short 96 inch wheelbase yet it had a great suspension for its time. I drove it till it wore out. I have owned one other all wheel drive car, a 92 Ford Aerostar. It was a great all around car especially for family travelling. Drove that minivan till it wore out, 208,000 miles.

I am not planning any performace changes anytime soon, warranty concerns. This car I will drive to work each day. My commute is 80% highway at 75 mph with some stop and go depending on conditions. Anyway, thank you all for creating and supporting this forum.

Nice. The 06 WRX is a very good platform for performance. Have fun with it!

Nice car! You could still do some mods and not void your warranty. I think...

Some steering rack and shifter bushings will give it a more refined feel. A short shifter, Perrin foam filter. I believe you could also do a Cobb AP stage 1 since there is no real way for the shop to know you had installed a different map on the ECU. Unless I'm mistaken. Also sway bars and endlinks. Etc, etc.

Nothing drastic, but all the small things do add up to a better feeling and handling car. I really love the bushings I had put on my car. Especially the steering rack bushings. Its really noticeable at highway speeds and they're only $30.

    Just my $.02 :)

Don't let being an EE be an excuse! I know because I am one, as well.

I am a Product Engineer and we develop/manufacture preamps for Hard Disk Drives.... What do you do?

    Welcome!

An answer to Chin, I spent 5 years working on hard drives. So I guess you would be working around the latest MR heads with sputtered disks on glass substrates. I now work on power distribution controls.

I have not spent much time understanding turbos but I am learning. Exhaust is probably the best bang for the buck for an entry level start. I would like to get some improvement in the low end around 2,000 to 3,000 rpm. Right off the lot the performance is pretty good. Subaru is more enthusiast friendly than others.
