Here how one of the wheels looks like after sanding, jb welding the rash, 3 coasts of primer, 3 coats of Wheel paint and 2 coats of clear. 2 more to go.
In all honesty, I have to agree (at least in this picture). When you posted the picture of them next to your car they looked great, but I think the color is a bit darker than I'd lean towards. A dark picture and close up makes it real hard to illustrate the potential and true quality of your work. Can you post a pic of one next to your car again?
if the ones pictured in the thread are his winters he is dumb for going to an 18 inch wheel for the winter.
My stock are 18s. And These ones are 18x8 not 18x7 so they are much more flush with the car. I think light wheels look bad on dark cars. I will put them up to the car and take a pic tomorrow. And Jb Weld is very sandable
will not be surprised they will look like poop, but thats fine. I think i should do 4 or 5 clear coats.
well before you go spraying on more clear... whats your base color paint? **brand / how applied** and what type of clear are you using? **brand / how applied**
I will gladly give advice when I have less alcohol in my system. now... is not the time.... stop using canned air stuff people (agreed, looks okeedoakie for now)
real auto paint ftw! skarecrow i want to come airbrush with you sometime i havent painted in almost 3 years.
i'm saying I work in a custom car shop and have done nothing but paint... I learned my wee bit of art skill from 2 of the worlds most well known airbrush artists... been a featured artist on the worlds largest airbrush forum... not for bragging writes, but for resume credentials yes painting pretty pictures is a bit different from painting pretty wheels. but prepping / and finalizing the product is the same. no matter the design achieved. out of the few things i've learned in painting... you can always learn something from someone. EVERYONE has a different style.... i'm not trying to crap on the poor guy for taking the bull by the horns and saying "go nuts" i'm not saying I can or cannot do what he's trying to achieve better or worse. i'm just trying to guide his humble little hand away from the damn cans of crappy paint. the ONLY thing I can see being shot from a can with any form of longevity is primer. some may have a different form of opinion, and I would love to hear how those canned shot paint jobs are holding up after time in the elements. automotive paints are ftw tho. and would love to see someone who loves there cars as much as you guys love your cars who refuse anything less then the best go in your engines, start pushing that way with your body work. just an opinion. and I am a little liquored up this evening so this is as professional as I can sound at the moment I do still love to see people doing stuff to make them more personal... no matter if other people like the final product or not. if you got what your goal was... then thats all that matters.
I air brush everyday at work but it is a little different on cakes than cars...I like the color choice should look good.
what did you use to sand inbetween the spokes. ive been in the process of sanding my wheels down to get ready for paint but it takes FOREVER!!!
Its pretty much one wheel a day. It takes around 4-5 hours per wheel. I sand it down with 400 sand paper and put 3 coats of primer, 2 dry coats and 1 wet coat of paint. Skarecrow, I am not buying a paint booth and all the tools to paint 300 dollar wheels. If prepped right spray cans are very good.
I'm gonna go ahead and say if you don't like them on the leggy I'd be willing to trade. I really like the looks of those, Mr. Tarlov. Very good job.
ILLEGAL.... tampering with them could probably get you in more trouble than running cat-less... (if in an accident and they investigated or something weird) and yes there is another way.. its called black tape
if you bypass it, that could void warranty which may cause issues if in an accident where tire pressure was part of the cause.
um who works for a dealership and who doesnt...????? um... its a federal mandate as of 08 heading into effect more in 09 models..... it is this way cause DUMB ass americans cant take 2 mins to check their tire pressures.... we deal with this every-time a put Nittos on F350s and the owner says teh tire light is on.. well no duh.. the sensor is asking for 65-80psi and your tires only allow 50psi... and we cannot disable it in the ecm due to it being illegal... so you wanna ask this question again... now saying illegal is like saying illegal when it comes to the exhaust.. technically NO shop is supposed to even work on a car if it is misisng the convertor (exhaust work) till the proper part is installed... how do I know this.. oh I dont know I ran an exhaust shop for almost 4 yrs, and also had to deal with other legislation... Maybe you should stick to thing syou know a lot about .. oh like politics and How Russia is not like the US and NEVER INVADES other countries
