Does anyone have any expirence with any type of ALK (Whiteline) or PSRS(Perrin) on a WRX/STi? I've heard they're a great suspesion upgrade - almost as nice as a RSB upgrade. I wonder if they're autocross legal, or at least tolerated around here. I haven't autox-ed yet but am considering starting this season. Increased handling and feel would be nice for daily driving too.
i did a little research on these a while ago. mostly in the ALK. it suposed to caster alittle bit, and also reduce front end lift. i have heard alot of poeple say that they like the ALK. but beyind that i know very little about it.
I have seen these discussed recently on MNAUTOX and NASIOC, and it would seem that most of the classes that allow minor mods ban this mod. I even saw the rules for one class that explicitly forbid it. However, you can use the Whiteline/Fulcrum offset bushings that replace the existing bushings on the bracket that attaches the control arm to the chassis. I am considering this myself for this year. The rules that forbid them do so because they change the chassis attachment point of the lower control arms. The offset bushings use the stock bracket, so the rule does not apply. These same rules explicitly allow replacment bushings, including offset ones. To me, I think the offset bushings offer an advantage over the ALK. Since they have to be pressed into the existing housing, the angle at which they are pressed in can vary on each side. This would allow you to dial out any caster differences between the L/R sides of the car, in effect evening things up. The offset bushings are alleged to provide as much caster as the ALK. Bye for now, Stuart.
Who sells these bushings!? I'm definately interested. Is it possible to increase caster by adding washers between the brackets and the chassis???
I have the Whiteline ALK on my GC8. It's very good if used with stiff suspensions. With the ALK your car will under steer less during early exit acceleration, but you'll have to put a little more effort during the slalom. I’d suggest you buy camber plates to go along with the kit. Positive caster also produces positive camber during acceleration. My outside tires show signs of usage, but the inside are almost brand new.
If you ever plan on autocrossing, don't install them. 1.5 deg of caster isn't worth having to compete in highly prepared classes with cars like mine
http://www.boxer4racing.com/ I never found the actual offset bushings on the website, but a quick email to these guys got me the answer I needed. They do carry them, and I think they're about $80, which is way cheaper than the ALK, but they do need to be pressed in, and measured so that they go in at the right angle, so professional installation is highly recommended. It seems odd to me that two alternate mods that do essentially the same thing can be treated so differently in the class rules. Stuart.
