Was looking at getting an Escort 8500 and the Escort Live cord and app. Seems like a good idea, but I wonder how many people in the metro area actually use the app and report speedtraps? Curious if anyone who is actually using it can comment.
If you have a Smartphone, get WAZE: WAZE homepage last I checked, over 15,ooo people use it in MN alone and are very good at reporting police, traffic, accidents, potholes, roadkill, and even icy spots on the roads. Best part is, it's free. I've been using it for over two years now and have not received a speeding ticket yet (although I don't usually go faster than the flow of traffic). But the program gives you more than enough warning if there are police on the route so you can adjust your speed accordingly.
I had a V1 when I had my A4. I regret selling it to this day. If I ever scrap the cash together, there isn't another brand I would buy
V1 FTW! I've owned a V1, a Escort 8500, Escort 8500 x50, and the Bell STI Driver and the V1 has been the best.
I've found life behind the wheel to be a lot less stressful since throwing the radar detector out and slowing down a few miles per hour.
+1 to this. One of my kids was playing with and destroyed the power cord to mine and I have been too lazy to get a replacement so I threw it in the glove box and slowed down. Life is a little less stressful.
The V1 is a tool. It does not require you to speed. I have one and I drive the speed limit. It is just nice to have the extra support when you need it.
I'll look in to WAZE. I've heard a lot of great things about the V1 as well. Maybe that's a better combination.
Waze is good, I use it for work everyday driving all across the metro. But it is dependent on active users. I'd say about 75% of the time I'll know a cop is up ahead. Or an accident or car pulled over, and I'll know there will be a bunch of dumbasses slowing down to get a look. Cheap alternative to a V1, but definitely not as reliable.
