So I'm done setting my tile floor and have to put the crapper back on the drain. I got a wax ring with a collar, and a wax ring extender thing, but the instrucitons say that I should havea floor flange- into which the screws that hold the pot onto the floor clip and point toward the ceiling.

I don't have such a flange, and think I remember some kind of black tube that went down the pipe when I pulled it out, but it was attached to the ring seal. I talked to my father-in-law and he said that I should be able to glue a new flange to the pvc waste line, but I'm afraid it will be too high...

Anyone done this before? I realize that I might have to cut out some of the tile because I didn't know about this on the front side...

Thanks man! The previous owner (one previous owner I believe) took alright care of the exterior and interior, for being 8 years old when I bought it.

    They're gonzo.
I don't remember if there were ever any in there, or if they pulled out when I yanked the toilet off of the ground.

screw/ glue the flang you have in the pic to your drain and then put the wax ring on it. the wax ring will smoosh down enough to compensate for thickness of the flange.

    lmao.

1st, you should stuff the hole with some fiberglass/rags and clean up the ring all the way around.

2nd, I would try to get some bolts, maybe hack the heads off, then quick set them into the two holes at 3 and 9 o'clock.

3rd, when they're set, you can set your wax ring and drop the toilet on and tighten down.

Not exactly the most ideal way of doing things. But I don't know how else you could get bolts in there. And I wouldn't want the toilet sitting there w/o being bolted down. Imo.

    ARG!
I just got back from the Depot and left knowing that I forgot something....
    FASTNERS! D@mn it.

I got the 4" floor collar to pvc cement into the drain pipe and a dremmel tool and tile cutting attachment figuring that I will need to make some room. Do you think that a Lock-Tite construction adhesive would hold that thing down to the concrete -rather than screwing into holes that might just pull out?

PS: Yay for Dremmel Friday. I've always wanted a Dremmel.

well i work in plumbing at Menards..so i might be in some help here..yes you do need a flange its part of the whole drainage. it shouldnt sit to high or anything like that, and if thats the case there are different size wax rings as well, there is an extra thick one (prob not what you will need if your worried it will sit too high) and there are the standered size ones. And yes you will need some cement screws as well, and dont forget if you need the water line connection from the toilet to your shut off valve as well. but over all yes you do need a flange, wax ring, and some cement screws for the most part.

Actually i am a plumber. Just make sure that the flange is not sitting above the tile and it is achored solidly to the floor. You would be amazed at how much strain a water closet will cause to a flange. If you have any other questions shoot me a PM.
