i need to get new tires to use for the winter. i am thinking of taking off the re070 and storing them until i go to california for college in a couple of years. i dont want to have to buy two sets so i am looking for all seasons instead of just snow tires
    thanks a lot

Just curious, why stay away from the ContiExtremes? I had good luck with them on my car. Another good tire to check out is the Nokian WR. Siped like a Hakka snow tire but they're an all season. They've also got a 50k treadwear warranty. Brett here in the shop has them on his VW and really likes them. Michelin Pilot Sport A/S is a decent choice too. My next set of tires will probably be the P Zero Neros, based on a cost vs performance factor. I've had first hand experience with the Michelins and the Contis. IMO both were decent tires, but I'd take the Conti on a cost basis any day of the week.

I actually like my Continental Extreme Contact tires. They were a huge improvement over the stock RE92s that came with my WRX. Dunno how the RE92s compare with the RE070s, though.

EDIT: Not to mention that for the price, I can't imagine that another tire beats this one in performance. They're very highly rated over at TireRack where they beat out many higher priced tires. I'd buy them again in a heartbeat.

I really like my BFGoodrich Traction T/A V tires on my 15"
They have 235/45/17, which you'll be going .9mph faster when your speedo reads 60mph. These have a H speed rating, but this is why they're ALL-Season tires!

When I first got them, I was like...tread wear 440.....hummm....bad traction. That is until I noticed 1 week later that they were TRACTION AA rating! The tread design is AWESOME for rain and snow IMO.

I don't mind my ContiExtremes one bit. They have pretty good traction in the dry, wet and gravel, and are nice and cheap.

The only problem with them is that I think that the sidewalls are a bit too soft -- I can definitely feel them flex under spirited driving conditions. Because of this, the steering feels just a bit vague before the car actually begins to turn.

Like Brian says, I think my next set of tires are going to be a set of all season P-Zeros.

I dont like the contis, just because the dry traction could be better. The BF's have a 400 treadwear also. just remember, you can get by with a harder compound in the winter, "pzero nero's or BF kdws" just because you have all wheel drive! by friend has the contis on his mustand, and they are awful awful in the winter, yet mine do fine!

Isn't that the case with nearly every all season tire? To get a jack of all trades tire, you are going to have to compromise in all conditions.

My very first car was a 95 Mustang. I drove it through 4 MN winters, and it got me through a couple of snowstorms between here and Seattle during a couple winter road trips. You can put tank treads on them and they'll still be horrible in winter. That's just the nature of a rwd pony car vs an awd car. The upside was that it got me used to the idea of throttle on oversteer and gave me a great way to learn car control. The new 05 Mustangs have the P Zero Nero as the standard tire and I'm sure that even with the traction control they'll still be a handful in the snow. I think that we Suby guys forget how difficult snow driving can be for those people out there who don't have AWD. FWD and RWD each have their good points and bad. If I had to pick between one or the other for winter, I'd choose RWD. It balances out the steering/braking vs power between the wheels, and you can do doughnuts ;)

Back to the original poster. Check out the Contis, they're good tires. Maybe I'll have to post up a thread with some different sizes and tires and pricing for you guys. Even find out from you guys who's had what and how you liked them so we can have a tire review thread. I'll talk to Joe and see if I can't get something figured out...

i have bridgestone potenza g009's and i love them! i have had them for about a full year now. they have good summer traction, and excellent wet traction. the did very well int he snow, but the were alittle slick on the ice (but that ice) check out the rating on tirerack.com

the only issue is that i dont know if they make these to fit 17's

i got these cuase they came highly recommended from Dan (rallywrx) who works at tires plus.

OT: i think i have seen you driving around orono. i drive the green impreza. are you currently in highschool?

I used Yokohama AVS S2s on my Impreza and they worked well. Not as good as some in the snow because of their tread pattern but they absolutely ruled wet conditions. As soon as I bleed off the RE92s on this car I'm going back to those.

I use the Conti Extreme for winter tires and through the Spring. They are good in snow/rain especially for our AWD vehicles. Good all around tire but not the best in any catagory as someone has stated above. I need to get some new rims though so that I don't need to switch out tires so often. :p

I have pilot sport all seasons on my car, and they worked good in winter, and I think they are decent for summer too. I'd certainly buy them again.
