Yeah, so I was just wondering if anyone feels the need to upgrade their security from the stock alarm system?

I have an 08 hatch wrx if that is of any consequence  ..

    Thanks!

    don't do it!

stock alarm gets you insurance discount

aftermarket alarm does nothing to prevent anything, period! Once someone is in (and the alarm goes off) you want everything in the car GONE- much easier to deal with insurance that way than with broken or half taken crap. The cost of a window alone is enough to make a deductable worth it in most cases.

If you insist on something- add alarm brand stickers and an led

Second that. I would not want my car damaged from trying to be stolen. If some one wants it bad enough there is nothing you can do about it anyways.

Well, any alarm will get you a discount on your insurance. A alarm will also deture 90% of criminals that are just breaking in to see what they can get. If someone wants your car, they will get it, alarm or not. But if some moron is just looking for a stereo, a alarm (or blinking red light) will make the moron go elsewhere. When you are a dumb criminal, a car without a alarm is a easier target than a car with a alarm.

My vote is for a blinking red light, and a good insurance policy.

Oh, and screw wasting your money on a nice car stereo. If you want a nice stereo, put it in your house, not in a noisy rattle trap car with poor acoustics.

    ^agree with russ and tom.

Stock security (with chipped key/lazer cut for 08?) is decent enough to deter most thieves... and no alarm will deter the serious ones.

but... if yr really itching to buy an alarm I'd suggest compustar and get a trunk popper. I dunno if 08 wrx factory alarm is connected to the hood, but its of little consequence since any knowledgeable thief knows where and how to cut the horn. The little "tap a specified sequence on the windshield to unlock the car" feature compustar has could be useful if you chronically lock yr keys in the car too.
