was just watching gone in 60 secs, and fell in love with their bbq grill again. they had a i think a 66 chevy front end with a grill inside. If anyone could build me a subaru style with metal closing vent hood scoop, i would pay top dollar for it! let's talk business, i am copy righting this idea on this thread now! you'll make alot of money with other car style too! holla!
Then make me one that is able to be mounted to a rear hitch mount so I can tote it to all the meets... must be charcoal and removeable. Thanks, Dean
A 66 Chevy wasn't made of plastic. You'll have a difficult time capturing the feel of it when you have to remove the bumper, grille insert, headlamps and hood scoop due to fire safety.
Good luck copyrighting that based on a comment in a thread. Like Jason said, you may be better off choosing an older car based on the lack of plastics.
Don't remember exactly but I think it was a Del Sol that I saw pulling a trailer made out of half of another Del Sol. Clever... and just about all they're good for.
Halfway through the OP's post I started thinking of Salvador Dali paintings. There's a reason old American cars are used for things like grills instead of modern cars.
I'll start on a paper design, of course all the plastics are being change to metal! lol common sense people! Just thought something like this would look hella good on my little junkyard with all the boys sitting around with beer and crawdaddy boil. will have to look around and talk to some steel workers for a price after the design. maybe not the original, i understand after looking at my car, but a all metal replica. and yes if all goes well, i'll make a smaller tail gate design
Endless budget or more money than sense? It would have to be both to pay someone to do this. OP, you realize this was $12k, right? http://jalopnik.com/271272/on-the-barbie-holden-monaro-gts-barbecue-grill http://www.bornrich.com/entry/classic-holden-monaro-gts-turned-into-a-barbeque-grill/
can't we just throw something on the intercooler then drive around really fast, when done scrape off the rocks, bugs and birds and enjoy?
Even if you have 12 buddies that work in automotive body repair, the time and cost to make an all sheet-steel impreza front end will be astronomical. The amount of welding and panel shaping will be enormous. We're talking weeks upon weeks with a few guys working on it. Then what to do about the headlamps? Those are plastic. I can't even fathom the cost for a custom shaped pyrex replica. It's a neat idea, but it isn't exactly grounded in reality. Expect to pay thousands of dollars for an Impreza grill. Your best bet, would be to go on eBay or stop by U-Pull and see if there are any imprezas there that you can take a front cut from. Drop the engine out of it, and have someone weld you up a pan and grill panel to sit inside it. Then try using it. There's a really good chance you'll catch something plastic on fire if you keep the body the way it is for looks.
seems like an awesome idea, like the pix that idget posted, it would be nice to have the hood close and the hood scope on top with a sliding shutter to adjust the hot air, another great idea readymix, maybe cut it in half and throw a grill inside and work around it, like weld pieces together for condiments or something
