cheapo sunglasses are just as good. my older brother had a 200 dollar pair of oakley sunglasses, which his 2 year old son picked up and snapped like a tooth pick.

I've owned Bolle and I have Ray Ban's now. Worth the money IMHO. I had the Bolle for 5 years and for $140 that's $28/yr. I used to spend at least $28/yr in cheap shades. Instead I had comfortable nice looking polarized shades.

Yea...unfortunately Oakleys either the O or X models are the only ones that Fit my fat wide a55 head perfectly. I had Juliets before for 4 yrs., i just recently lost it! S**T...I had a buddy of mine work @ a sunglass joint and got 30% off list...I hate to buy online, especially spend a few hundred on it cuz you never know how real is real. I tried Ray Ban's, Bolle, etc and they are jut to small...dammit!~

Lemme know. Later

Actually not to be picky but they arn't the same. Tests have been done with top companys Smith, Dragon, Spy ect.. and oakely came out on top with the best optical quality of them all. Cheap sunglass wearing for a long time= HEADACHE, because you eyes are straining to correct the ****ty (opticalness??). But thats just what i know.

interesting. i usually don't wear my sunglasses for more than 30 minutes at a time and it's only when i'm driving. so i never had a problem with headaches or eye strain. don't doubt it though...eyeballs can be finicky.

There is a difference in the lenses. All one has to do is try on different pairs to notice.

I used to work for Essilor of America. Probably the largest optical manufacturer in the world. You learn alot about stupid optical crap. Mainly prescription eyewear, I could make my own lenses from just looking at a prescription.

To me, Oakleys are crystal clear, bright and my eye's feel relaxed due to not having to squint. The cheapo's never seems as clear adn are just 'shades' with a cheap black #2 or 3 tint on the lense. I find myself still squinting and everything looks dark. The cheapo lenses power is usually 0. I have popped in sets in my lensometer and the sphere, cylinder and axis are usually 0. Its not hard to make a perfectly power less lense. So its basically the coating or lack there of on the lenses that make a difference.

But anyways, I got my Oaks for 45% off list. I took the OEM lenses out and put in some polarized lenses, put zeiss anti-reflective coat on the back and blue flash mirror on the front. They're nice. I gots me teh cuztomized Oaks Y0! I owns j00!

I can see if I can talk to some old friends that still work there and line up something for you Ray. You just need to know the style and color of the frame and type of lense. I have to order them from a Dr. out in NY city so it may take a week or two for them to get in.

Hi KSAL and Dizmal, Thanks for helping me out...The real reason why I want Oakleys is because my dam head is too wide. The other brands, generic or not, the lens are not covering my eyes and making me squint too much. For some odd reason Oakleys are the only ones that fit my Fat A55 head without me having to squint...And as Dizmal said, it does clear things up a bit. The other Sunglasses I've had just fogged out after a while. What I'm looking for is the Dartboard and X Metals, both Polarized.

    Part name and #:
-Polarized Dartboard Brown Tortoise/Gold Iridium (12-821)
    -POLARIZED ROMEO 2.0 X Metal/Black Iridium (12-687)

Thanks guys! Please let me know how much $$$...

So some of those cheap sunglasses that say they have polarized/UV protection lenses are really bogus? and just have some crappy film on them?

uh...purely coincidental :hsugh: . just thought they looked funny. kind of like some weird futuristic bra armor thingy for eyeballs.

I have to agree that oakleys have great opticalness quality lol. they are also very comfortable on my wide head. i have c-wires with perscription ice lenses. is it possible for anyone to replace my old lenses w/ new ones since my perscription has changed slightly. or do i need to get new frames?

as for those futursitc eye bras, one of the US track runners in the summer olympuc wore them. they were.....interesting.

You can get new lens for those glasses. You just need to give them your glasses .

They have a frame tracer at most labs. Its a little computer/machine that runs around the inside of the frame and sets the lens shape in a database. Then when your job finally gets to the edgers, it enters the job#, pulls up the shape from the db and edges the slab to the shape of your frame.

You can get different flash mirror coats on the lenses(the red, blue, green, silver), UV, Polaroid, anti-reflective coating, darker/lighter tints, etc.

I had a pair of fake oakleys that were pretty decent, but eventually the paint wore off the brim where it said "oakley". So I decided to pony up the cash and buy a real pair from sunglass hut or wherever in the malls... 2 years later the real ones did the same thing the fake pair did.:(

I really couldn't tell the difference between the two.
