I'm just wondering if anyone has had the balls to challenge a speeding ticket before. If so, what was the outcome. I got a 44 in a 30 and the ticket is $120. There was another car in front of me doing the same speed and he didn't get ticketed. Also, traffic passed us (the cop and I) at well over the speed limit as he was writing the ticket. He was a real prick too, all nice and polite as he was reaming me.
I think court is your best bet, they might give you some sort of deal where you get no more moving violations in a certain period and then it gets wiped off your record. Worth the attempt for insurance purposes, definitely.
repeat after me: "Continuance for dismissal" If your record is clean prior to this, it's your best bet. It doesn't matter that the car in front of you was speeding, or other cars flying by after you were pulled over. Neither of those circumstances proves you were not speeding, which is the real question. Sorry to hear the cop was a prick. I wish that 100% of traffic cops were female.. They are much more fair, and don't as easily get caught up in having "the power". -Jordan
I have about 5-7 speeding tickets in my 15 years of driving, so I'm not sure if they would buy into that. I did find a website that talks about grounds for dismissal. They say that the officer has to prove that an engineering study has been conducted within the last five years and that the posted speed limit needs to be within 5 mph of the average speed rounded up. The study cannot be conducted by a police officer, only an engineer. Secondly, a speed trap is illegal. In other words, an officer can't set up shop in a location where he can basically hand out speeding tickets all day long. It sounds kind of risky going in and trying to challenge the law. In my experience, the judge will just ignore "the law" and do whatever he likes. I have been to court before, and it was an unpleasant experience. Basically, my record was clear and me and another person got identical tickets at the same time. We both had the same judge but different hearings. The other person had a record and was a convicted felon. I got maximum fines, he got off scotch free. That is the American legal system for you.

I've had my run in with female cops, maybe it's their PMS week or something I've run into ONE female trooper, she's very nice to me and also praised my car too LOL (of course no ticket). Android, I'd fight the ticket... as Jordan and other have stated. In my experience they won't talk to you whether who was speeding ahead or behind you. If you're pulled over, they expect you to pay the price (I know it sux)... best bet is to make a deal with the Judge. Most likely, they'll tell you to keep your record clean for a year and they'll wipe it out so it won't go on your record. Good luck bro.
