so I start my new job tomorrow and that means I get to drive down from the golden valley area to burnsville. Anyone else do this? what am I expecting for a commute both there and back during rush hour? Likely route is 100s to 494e to 35w s. I figured I'd leave myself an hour to get down there.
mlgez commutes from buffalo to burnsville. as far as route, thats your best bet, what time do you have to be at work and when are you done with work? where will you be working?
I will be working with matt at goodrich (manufacturing engineer). I have to be to work at 8 tomorrow but once I'm done with training I might be able to flex my hours
Oh man, I feel for you. I used to live in New Hope and work in Eagan. That sucked so badly, i can only begin to explain. It too 30 minutes to get from NH to Eagan in the mornings. It took 2-1/2 hours to get home.
we do Edina to Northfield daily... 100 south isnt bad, but then 494 is a mess... 35 really depends on the day
this is what i fear and what others have told me. yea that's been my impression from just driving down that way for other things. I'll miss my old against traffic commute on 694
Skip 494. It's always a parking lot from 169 to 35W. I know that 62 is under construction but I would take 100 to 62 to 35W south. Another option is to take 100 all the way until it becomes Normandale down to 98th and take 98th to 35W. There are more lights but 98th is set to allow more east-west traffic and 100 southbound is pretty quick once it becomes Normandale. I hate 494 during rush hours.
Actually, now that I think about it... the worst part was where 100 north necked down at Cedar Lake Rd, but that's been opened up since, so it should be a lot better than it was 6-7 years ago. Of course 35W can go to hell at the drop of a hat, especially these days. Depending on exactly where you are (work & home), I might look into heading home via 169, take the Ferry Bridge, and keep going up to 55. You'd be going to opposite way as most of the traffic that route (at least until you got north of 62).
my dad works there. that's gonna be a hell of a commute man. he lives by calhoun, so it isn't as bad for him. sounds like a decent route you have going. when they finish the new bridge, that should help things a bit.
I'm giving myself twice as much time as google says it will take. greg, that's not a bad idea. 494 is awful all the time and that's the part I was worried about (at least on the way down).
494 is worse in the afternoon. My wife used to work at 494/France and the 494 portion was the worst part.
oh I'd believe it. I'm just thinking all of it will be clogged up in the afternoon. seems like 100n always is a wall of cars after 4pm
Not a bad idea. The 94/394 interchange sucks but it's not as bad as 494. I've never driven 35W from the city south during rush hour.
Yeah...all I know is 100 is like a prison that you cannot escape. Both that and 169 are just terrible. I would avoid that and 494 like the plague.
35 south wasn't as bad before, but now with the road construction crap... and all the traffic being bottle necked from part of 35 being closed, its been a real mess.
I think it opened tonight...I saw it online...they rushed to have it done for the conclusion of the twins game and the traffic flow from it...etc.
Golden Valley is near-West metro, not NW. Maple Grove is NW metro. I digress. Your best bet is likely 169 south to 13 after crossing the river to ???? depending on your final destination. I live off of 394/169 and that was my typical path to work. Largely a reverse commute. Dragging yourself anywhere near DT/94/35W is like volunteering for Federal Pound Me in the A$$ Prison. Even 100S can be a gamble some days and 100N gets jammed after work.
I drive from Farmington to Eden Prairie daily 77 > 494 > hwy 5 what a pain in my ass. I hate 494 with a passion. On a good day I can get to work in about 40 minutes, on the snowy days im looking at a couple hours
Anyone have thoughts about Columbia Heights to Wayzata in AM traffic and the opposite in the PM rush? As in: will it suck? routes? long time? (semi-threadjack, sorry )
left at 7, got there at 7:30. went home after training at about 4, got home around 4:45. we'll see tomorrow - I plan on staying later. ended up taking 62 both ways instead of 494
