Need to make some holes in things ;) Not sure on a date that I would need it yet. Anyone got a semi-portable aircompressor and a diegrinder that I could use to make holes in, say, a car hood?

i see, i guess you will need alittle more then a drill.

if you are unable to find anyone on here, i might be able to borrow/gain use of one from/at my buddys shop. but that is along ways away from you (other side of the cities almost)

good luck finding a grinder, and good luck lining that vent up right.

I got an air compressor but no die grinder. Mine is 26 gallons big and runs 5.6 CFM @ 90 psi. If you want to borrow it, just let me know. It's a 2-person job to lift it.

I don't have it in my budget to get an aircompressor right now. It is something that I will probably end up getting next year.

If you plan on cutting a hole in your hood that larger with a die grinder, it will take you all winter. I would use a jig saw/sawzall. From there you can use a die grinder to make it fit. I do have die grinders and bits, but everything I have wil take you months to cut out a hole like that. You could also use a cutoff wheel type, but you will still use alot of wheels. Oh ya, check out harbor freight, that always have die grinders on sale for like 9.99.

Jason I agree with the using a sawzall. A die grinder will take forever on sheet metal even. I have a straight cut off tool, with 3" discs, but corners will still be hard to do.

ok, thanks for the pointers. I forget that my hood is steel not aluminum. I used to work in a metal shop, but it was mostly aluminum stuff, so we used die grinders alot for smaller cuts. Yeah, the steel hood will require a bit more than a die grinder. My only worry is that the sawzall will cause some pulling of the metal. We'll see what happens. I could always use a Sawzall.

well, you will want to use a fine tooth blade (probably 20 teeth per inch) and just let the saw do the work.
