It's new-clutch-thirty in Surly land. I'm settling down to either an ACT HDSS, ClutchMasters FX200/300 or a CCI 2100 series. These are offered in packages that almost always include a LWFW. I was planning on going with an OE'ish wheel as LWFW's come with some driveability concerns, and I wouldn't be able to really take advantage of the benefits given how sloppy my 6MT is. It doesn't matter how quick the engine revs or spins down, I'm not going to be able to shift much faster than I do now... That said, I'm starting to think maybe I should just spring for a package with a LWFW and see what I think. I can go get my OE resurfaced in the mean time and if I don't like it I can just slap the OE back in there. I'd rather not pay to drop the trans twice, but I wouldn't be completely boned. Soooo... I've read everything I can get my hands on and it seems like I could probably live with a LWFW even though I'd prefer OE. The only way to know for sure is to drive a setup with a relatively beefy pressure plate and a LWFW. Is anyone running one that they'd be willing to let me drive around a short ways? Also, trying to get some opinions on FX200 vs FX300. Since I'm unlikely to build the car above mid 300's (only puts out 33xwtq now, going to stay that way for a long time) it seems the FX300 might be overkill and introduce unnecessary stress on the gear box itself.
I was apprehensive about getting a LWFW from all the stories I heard about stalling and driveability. Then I got one for free and gave it a shot. I will never go back to an OE weight if I can help it.
I have an ACT Prolite flywheel (9lbs). If it didn't already come on the car, I would have gone with a Streetlite (12 lbs). The Prolite seems to be just a little to extreme and causes some inconvenient drivability issues.
