There's some perverse part of me that really enjoys heading out to the boneyard and picking over old cars for parts.

Yesterday I saw a couple of relatively unmolested Subies, an older Impreza and a mid-90's 2.5L Legacy. Didn't look too close since I wasn't after Subaru parts.

But if anyone interested in maybe getting together a few people and doing some serious pulling of stuff, I'd be interested. There's an engine and a transmission in two different cars I'd really like to pull from the East Bethel U-Pull. I can get the transmission alone, but an engine is a little too much for one guy.

    I've got a full-size truck so hauling stuff around isn't a problem.

I doubt it. Their inventory changes over pretty quick. I doubt any car is in the lot more than 3 months. You can check the current inventory online though: http://www.upullrparts.com

I've never looked at more than the import and truck sections, and only a casual look at the truck section when I was putting mine back together.

I doubt that I can lift a SR20DE up and out by myself, they're not nearly as compact and tidy as the boxers, and if I drop it down I'm going to have to be super careful about the bottom end as the composite steel and aluminum oil pans are easy to damage. I could do it, but I'd rather not.

When are you planning to go? I have some time off around the end of this month and I might be looking for things to do, I would enjoy making a trip to u-pull. I haven't been there in a while.

No firm plans, that's why I was just asking. If there's a weekend day that works for you around the end of the month, I can likely do that. Typically I go on Thursdays, but that's because my schedule makes little to no sense :)

Fuji, how do you deal with dropping the engine nicely? They don't allow jacks, so I can't imagine they'd much appreciate a cherry picker. I can see two guys being able to support an engine well enough to drop it out or even lift it up, but one little guy?

they have this huge crazy cherry picker dealy that can lift anything out of anything, you just tell them at the front when you pay to get in that you are pulling an engine.

the rosemount one appears to be the place to go for impreza's.

also, when I was there a couple weeks ago, the '95 leggy still had an 2.2

yea, I hit up the upull yards pretty frequently, Upull's the easiest one, but the inventory turns over so quickly that they don'[t have anything rare and interesting. the rosemount one has an '86 station wagon. if it's still there next week, I'm probably going to go rob a few things off of it.

EDIT: looks like the Bethel one just got 2 GCs a couple days ago.

Generally when I'm at the Rosemount one (closer to me) there next to zero Subies, and each time I've seen one it's been completely gutted. Hmm. Maybe that's just Chux :)

yes, correct! They also have an engine lift so you can lift the motor into your car.
