a few years back we had a basset named "Sadie"... and one super cold thanksgiving night in 2000 at the cabin in sub degree temps we let the little howler out to go pottie. Well the dog wouldn't come in, no matter how many times we called.... so we had to go hunting. After about 10 minutes of looking we found the little snooper with her head buried into a small log pile.. snorting away and trying to get at something. After pulling her back and trying to pull her inside we heard something from the log pile. A very faint little Mew. So I tore apart the log pile to find a very thin, scared, and frozen baby kitten. We brought the kitten inside and gave her something to eat. Poor little thing ate everything we could give her, and once full would romp on up and nuzzle in on her savior puppy friend. Sadie I don't think knew what to do so she excepted it. These two were in-separable for many a year. one wouldn't usually go outside unless the other one could. well a few years back sadies kidneys started failing, and she passed away on my lap in mid summer. Which left my mom heartbroken, since this was basically her dog. It also left the cat heart broken. If you guys dont think animals have feelings your dead wrong. For the following 3 years the cat would sleep on the dogs bed at night, and as soon as it was warm enough or someone was up to let her out... she would go outside, and sleep on her friends grave. 3 years later the cat stopped doing this, slowly stopped eating. So worried about the cat the mom brought the cat into the vet... who then told my mom the not so good news. The cat had mouth cancer and would have a few months at best. It didn't last a few months.. or even a month. 3 days later my mom had to go put her down. The cancer had spread so fast that in a matter of days it was unbearable. Rather then let the cat suffer to make a human feel better, she did what was best. Which ultimately left my mom with a broken heart. This was her last connection to the animals. She goes out to the humain society now and again to look at puppys and cats just to play with them a little bit, and give them some interaction... but last night she brought up the fact that she was thinking about a dog.... and how she missed sadie. Nothing will ever replace the beloved pets, but if anyone knows a reputable basset breeder I would love to have her go and look at a puppy for christmas. I know this was a super long story to read, but I loves the mom, and its best you hear the whole story to understand thanks for reading, and thanks in advance!
My lyle (in my avatar) is from a breeder in st cloud who in turn sold him to a pet store which i bought him from (bad idea) Look on craigslist and look often as they get flagged almost immediatly.
