Anyone looking at moving to new Ramsey townhomes: The Gables or Town and Country?

I've been very turned on by these townhomes that are going up in Ramsey. The whole area is booming right now and should be another larger suburban area. Starting around $185,00, all 4 models feature jacuzzis in the Terrace seris, 2 car garages, and most are 3 bedroom/3 bath and 3 levels.

I was going to buy a new bike and an STi this summer, but i decided to do the smart thing and keep my '02, wait on the bike, and get a new place.

cheaper of the two series of townhomes. Each series has around 4-5 different models

More expensive and nicer of the 2 series. Each has whirlpool (definate plus when bringing the womenz home from the bars)

I've looked into it..... But working in St. Paul is kind of a drive for me. I also don't want to deal with association fee's and all that mumbo jumbo... But they are great deals for first time home buyers, keep it for 5-10 years and it will be worth mid 200's.

links both go to the same thing but i do floor covering for d.r.horton and town and country . D.r. Horton is by far a better builder. Clown and country is a very disorganized slapped together mess. just my.02

Starting at 185K rarely ends at 190k. Upgrades sure get up there fast!

But not too bad. I've been looking around Maple Grove/Plymouth area.

If you're going to do it, do it sooner than later, I bought a town and country townhome two years ago, and I got a huge garage for a townhouse, 20x27. Love my house no problems, but if you do end up buying town and country talk to me before you do.

they're nice if you don't have time or money to invest in equipment to mow the lawn, water it, trim it etc. as well as a snowplow, blower etc. I know i wouldn't have time or money to buy a few thousand in equipment. That and i'm too lazy to get up at 5am in january to shovel my driveway before rush hour to school.

Not only that, these have quite a bit of features that you couldn't get in a house for the price (whirlpool, etc). I know i could find plenty of houses for $200K that have a larger living area and whatnot, but i don't need the size. I'd rather have quality over quanitity. Just my opinion.

I would think once that all the shops, new ramsey city center, and the northstar commuter train are all done there it would make your townhouse go up in value right away giving you some equity fast. Even if it didnt go up in value that fast it beats the hell out wasting money on rent.

I would say can get a house, especially if you are looking to get some equity out of it. I have about 4 friends that got townhomes and after being there some for a year and a couple for 2 years they want out. Like somone said above, there are to many rules to follow, association fee, and you have to deal with neighbors that are right on your front door step. But like you said if you are looking to not have to do any yard work and such its good, but thats what you pay your association fees for, and for what some townhomes charge you could hire a local guy/company year round to mow your grass and plow your driveway. I got my house about 3 years ago now, and dont regret it one bit. Sure i had to get a bunch of yard tools (riding lawn mower one of them for a 1 acre yard) and stuff for it but in the end it more rewarding doing it yourself. But look around at houses in that area, and isanti you would be suprised what houses go for in that area. A buddy of mine just had a house built last summer in Isanti and i think it was under 190 and that is built to what they wanted. But just look around and go from there.
