yep, same reason we got jump seats. taxes. something about if it had a certain square footage of bed space, it would be considered a truck, and not subject to the steep passenger car taxes (don't ask me why that is though....)
I was assuming what is so unique is the fact that considering the drivers 'skill' it is about to be the rarest long bed brat wrapped around a not so rare pine tree.
yep. meant cheaper import taxes. the US changed that law in '85, which is why no post-1985 brats have them. and is also why subaru stopped importing them entirely just a few years later (even though they kept making them in other markets until 1994)
