I have been working as an intern at a place that refines Waste Vegetable Oil (WVO) for a fuel source. I was just wondering if anyone on here was running WVO in their diesel vehicle? (it wont work in your Suby ;-) )

A friend of mine was considering it on a Jetta TDi but he never went through with it. A guy on another forum is doing it to his diesel car in WI but I don't think he's got it up and running yet. I'm quite interested in the successes of WVO cars as I'd like to do it with my diesel Legacy when I get it as an "economy" mode option.

What does your shop do? I've seen methods for cleaning the oil that can be done from home. I'm a bit worried that there are now services that do this and drive up the costs of this alternative fuel. Everyone seems so fixated on biodiesel these days and don't realize WVO is different.

I am really hoping for the Turbo Diesel Legacy to be brought over here soon. I have been thinking of converting one to run on WVO for a while now.

The company specializes in collecting and refining WVO. So pretty much everything between when it comes out of a fryer to when it goes into a car/truck is taken care of. The whole process can be done at home and is fairly simple, yet problems lie in finding a reliable source of oil and making sure that your filtration/treatment process can remove enough of the particulates and all of the water. The cost isnt terrible, we charge roughly 1/2 the price of diesel fuel. for $2 or so a gallon it is a steal if you ask me.

I frankly prefer WVO to biodiesel. The way to look at it is that you either need to convert the fuel (biodiesel) or the vehicle (WVO) to run on it. WVO comes out being a much cleaner product as there arnt any hazardous by-products to deal with.

I heard from someone that there is a place in germany which makes kits specifically for converting the TDis to run on WVO. There is a place in Wisconsin that imports and install them.

You happen to have contact information for those VW kits?

I do not. I just heard about the place through wood of mouth and I didnt get the name. one thing with their kits is that you have to run WVO all the time. I am not sure if it has something to do with the tune, or just that they dont install a secondary tank, but you cant run normal diesel in them.
