I'm going to change my gear oil soon on my rs and was wondering if any of you guys had Motul Gear 300. Pros and Cons? I've read on other forums that it works pretty good, doesn't damage the syncros.

    Yang,

I dont use Motul, but I use Redline. IMO despite what your using as long as you know what your doing and dont over fill or under fill, you'll be fine. As far as quality, thats going to depend on what your needs are. Granted Motul is a bit more on the expensive side. There are made for a certain purpose, and some may not be intended for street use. Example: for race app, they recommend changing more frequently.

    Enjoy,

    Chong

I would try and avoid using a synth. oil in the tranny. It is ok for the diff. but to slipery for the syncro's

You might want to talk to Russ and get some amsoil he gives a good price.

Thats me, I am here. The std sythetic oil (ok for syncros) is $6 a quart, and the series 200 (good for rear diffs) is about $7.50 a quart. I have some of each on hand, but I will need to get more of the std oil if you need alot. Let me know

got some amsoil russ? I'm gonna need it for my tranny oil. Just need enough to fill it up after I change it. Not going with syntetic, sounds to risky.

I'm going to need to change my tranny and diff fluid in the spring, also. I am interested in buying some, but I currently have Redline oils in my tranny and diff and I need to find out if I can spare some change for them. :)

My $0.02... I have been running with Redline and more recently Motul Gear 300 in the RS for 3 years. I have had ZERO issues with syncros to this point. It did help when the tranny was cold, back when I drove it in the winter. I do, however, think I have a bearing going judging by the deccel whine I have. Considering the abuse the tranny has gone through (daily, autox, and track), I am not surprised. I still don't see the justification for people saying it's bad for syncros as there are too many accounts of non-issues (I have read most of the debates on the BBs). Although, everyone is entitled to their opinion...
