I had my car into Blooming Subaru tonight and they told me that my rear struts need to be replaced. Car is at 37,244 miles and I have the Subaru Gold warranty. I have seen these should be replaced by the dealer?

Does anyone have any experiance with getting their car serviced on the extended warranty?

The service adviser seemed to assume that since i did not purchase the warranty through them that they didnt have to service it.

    Anyways..any help is appreciated...

If it's a Subaru Gold warranty then it should work at any Subaru dealer, I can't remember what the strut coverage is on that one though.

Ummm, as far as I recall, even if you purchased a 3rd party warranty, the Subaru shop will service it and get their money from that warranty company.

I would suggest, if you get the struts replaced, and depending on if you have the notorious inverted Subaru struts, you grease them up right away.

yes, redheat86's is an 05 sti, so inverted.

if you do get them replaced, like deegee said, grease them up right away.

I've got a gold plus booklet here and it says shock absorbers are not covered (along with brake pads, discs, etc - other wear items.) That said, given the fact that it is such a common issue, I would think you would have a shot at getting it covered anyway.

To put it kindly, I have had extremely spotty service at Bloomington. I would recommend going pretty much anywhere else.

...aint gonna give him free struts and install.

If for whatever reason the warranty thing doesn't go through, I'd suggest at least trying to re-pack the current struts. Could just be grey-pouponed grease and not a blown strut that's causing your clunking.

I am not to concerned. I just have not found a set of Cuscos on YAJ yet..

If i can get them replaced then i will.

And your right bloomington Subaru is horrible. Not sure how it can take almsot 2 hours to get an oil change and diagnose a strut issue...let alone joy ride the car for 5 miles....ack...

If you're going to put aftermarket ones on it, get the freebie warranty work done FIRST so you have a fresh set of struts to throw back on in case you change your mind. ;)
