for those self tuners out there who hate the ap and love open ecu....

is there any reading material online aside from random posts on how to self tune using the program?

I would like to get some more info on it before I decide to either get a cable and find someone to help teach to tune the car...
or wait for street tuner and a giant manual.

Is there some sort of online manual to read through?

Not sure about the manual but if you really want to learn buy the cable and just start data logging. You can learn alot from it.

street tuner manual would be a place to start learning. its on cobbs site. then you can search on enginuity.org for learning what to do next

Well, I have yet to really run across any sort of "how to tune a car" guide. Even though it is a lot easier than a lot of people think, the initial first steps can be somewhat overwelming.

My suggestion is to read up on enginuity.org as much as possible.

Search on nasioc. TXS made a nice tuning guide (kinda biased twards the utec) abd Mick the gringe also made a pretty good tuning guide. Both are twards the utec a bit, but they explain things like pre-spool, spool, torque points and stuff like that. Kinda breaks down what the engine does going through a pull and what you need to do and look for. And the other thing you can do is just ask alot of questions.

My initial problem was the understanding the language of tuning, and wrapping my head around what everything did.

With that said, the ECU section of scoobypedia is a very good initial starting point to get the basics.
