    Fail, lol.

Open source hardware anyone? ...there has to be a few Engineers around this forum. Curious to see if anyone has worked W/ any of the boards & what did you utilize them for?

i haven't worked with one, but they do intrigue me
what bothers me is the watered down programming language
they can pretty much do anything provided you hook up the right parts, but then again so can a 50 cent microcontroller

The Uni board is on it's way. I'll be playin' around W/ it when it gets here. I really should have just looked up the schematics & etched my own

I would be more interested in them if I had a project that needed control like that. I would like to dabble with one, but I haven't got anything to point my efforts towards at the moment.

Ah, MSU usually hosts some type of science fair. I am hoping to build an Arduino based RC Heli & compete

I don't DIY things to "compete" usually. I DIY stuff because I like to have full control of a project and I like to DIY stuff on the cheap. I could see using something Arduino related for home automation. But there are decent systems for sale that don't require me to develop them and aren't all that expensive.

if you ever seem stuck, or just want feedback, i'd be willing to review your code and design
    just let me know
btw, i'm an embedded systems development engineer by trade

Another thing that has piqued my interest lately is the Raspberry Pi board. 700MHz ARM11 based board with 256MB RAM, USB/HDMI/Audio/Ethernet headers and a MicroSD slot for onboard storage. Fits in your hand. Not beefy enough to run windows I would assume, especially since Win7 isn't ARM anyway. But it'll run Linux all day. Could make for a cool attached HTPC or something like that. Small enough to embed into a refrigerator door to have network/internet accessable touchscreens built into the door :p

I've messed around with these. They're definitely fun! Strayed away when I lost interest because I didn't know what to build. Once I have a cool idea of some way to implement it, I'll hop back on. Some auto related arduino project would be awesome!
