This is based off of a 535 mile round trip to Brookings, SD and back on Saturday May 6. Average speed 65-70. Sunny, 70 degrees with a light breeze. Car is an 05 LGT 5eat with a conservative tune and up/down pipe, GS bcs, and tires filled at 35 psi. Rarely in boost. I was hoping to do a bit better. Thoughts...other mpg comparisons
It's all in the tune, and those low throttle cruising trims are some of the hardest to replicate while tuning and time-consuming to dial-in. A "conservative tune" is probably fairly rich, but under really low load, it's perfectly safe to get right up to stoich. I think I've even heard that it's safe to go a bit lean, but don't take my word for it. I know Russ was constantly tinkering with the tune on his WRX, and was getting excellent freeway mileage numbers (30+ IIRC), and that was a 4EAT.
I can reliably get 26-27 at 65-70 in the OBXT 5mt. Up pipe, downpipe and 3 inch pipes out the ass. Stock boost.
That's respectable mileage. During summer I get 26-27mpg in my stock 04 WRX but that's going 65-70 and taking it easy on the accelerations.
In my 04 wrx wagon I usually get 26-28 in the summer and 24-26 winter. I did hit 29 a couple times before switching the oil to T6. Last Friday I filled it up, and headed up North past Garrison to my cabin. I was doing 80 from Elk River to Onamia, and on 94 to 101. Filled it up today and I got 28! Not what I was expecting! Btw, if you ever drive up towards Millacs on 169, slow down to at least 75 through Onamia. The police sit right around that first curve there and will get ya!
Yeah, I got pulled over about a year ago there. Worked a double on a Friday, about 14 hours, heading up to my cabin and wanted to get up to the Y Club to watch the Wild play. I was doing 80 when I saw a car on the shoulder, so I moved to the left lane. I saw the reflective lettering on the car as soon as I passed him. Let me just say that politeness goes a long way! No ticket for this guy! He told me to keep it under 10 over next time, and have a good night. Made my weekend!
Now that I actually bought it and got it home safely here it is... I ended up getting just over 20 mpg on the 700 mile drive home with the cruise set at 80 the whole time (with some spirited driving in there) which surprised me a lot. Around town though in boost this thing will probably get like 12mpg.
Also wife took the WRX to Owatonna and back yesterday so used the majority of what was in that tank. I was excited to see just barely north of 25 when I filled up this morning.
How does the V compare power wise to your WRX? I will be purchasing one in the very near future. Congrats on the V! Check out http://www.ctsvowners.com it's a great forum and they encourage swearing and porn!
Haha it is a lot faster than my wrx even with the 20G @ 23psi on E85. Also instant torque at any rpm is awesome. It handles better than my 335i or wrx too even though its 4000lbs. That magnetic ride control is very good and steering feedback/brake feel is excellent. It has a few mods already which is part of the reason it is so fast lol. -Airaid intake -Magnaflow exhaust (sounds so good) -Fluidyne heat exchanger -Lingenfelter 2.55 in upper pulley It makes 13psi vs the stock 8 psi so its probably in the 650bhp range (high 500's whp close to 600whp). That supercharger whine might be better than turbo spool...haven't decided yet. Yeah im already on ctsvowners forum and the other caddy one. ctsvowners are all about modding and burning up tires lol.
This is one of the best thread hijacks I have seen in quite some time...seriously, @Nhibbs what a gorgeous car!!
2009 wrx average mpg highway cruising at 65-70mph (stock turbo kicks in around 70-75, so this is just below that threshold) Stock/stage 2: 23-24mpg (91 gas)- After tgv deletes/inlet: 28-29 mpg (91 gas), 26-27mpg (e85). I was surpised to see better mileage even with e 85 but it is consinstently there. If i drive 75-80 i probably average 1-2 mpg lower but i think getting rid of parasitic losses (tgvs) did this. And yes this cts v is gorgeous...
