How do you know he didn't have one blow out and put another rim on as a full sized spare? Did the other side of the car have two different tires/rims as well?

Tranny was rebuilt. There is too much going on to describe it all.

I had a talk with Bikerboy about it Dan, he thinks it's the tranny also.

I'm just an advocate against people spending the loot on RA gears and having them installed. They are the same width as the '04 plus trannies. The subaru 5 speed is internally identical to the five speeds of the 80's. Ask Chux. That means that the gearbox section of the five speed is over 30 years old in design. The gears themselves are the weakpoint. They are just physically too small for the job. PPG makes it work through 1/4 materials, and 3/4 tooth profile. They are so spendy because the process in cutting them is much more involved.

6 speeds have gears that are almost twice as wide the 5mt.

yus. Don't know if a 6mtizzle will be an option. But I wouldn't mind. A 6MT would be my first choice AFTER PPG's if I had to spend that kind of dough. I like mah looooong gears!

I understand. You do have to row the 6mt quite a bit. It feels so buttery smooth though.

My only payment is a tranny payment...

Mine will be tranny+car=sux. But if I have to ditch the idea of picking up the unicorn to make things more solid in the rex, well then that is a sacrifice I have to make.

I would love to add the RS to mah collection, but with everything crumbling down around me, it may not be financially responsible/possible.

Good thing no body took a pic of me driving to PepBoys with a spare tire on the rear.

Looks kinda cool in a ghetto way w/spare tire...but I made it and got a new set of Hankook.

Several years ago when I started collecting parts, I had two conditions. A 6 speed and a decent BB Garrett. Everything else kinda fell in place around that idea. Cripes, I could have bought a used STi with what I have into this damn thing...

Well I test drove the RS and loved it! Green and Gold 1998 with 150,000.

Would have made a beautiful swap car someday. I still have a little hope, but my hopes have been somewhat deflated since the tranny thing went down...little discouraging.

Still planning on seeing what kind of stuff I can pull off Monday when the banks open. Never know, maybe the RS is still a possibility.*crosses fingers*
