Hey Everyone, I know we've got enough people on here who are both interested in guns AND/OR looking to get a new gun in the near future that I thought I'd throw out this info.

Bills Gun Shop and Range in Robbinsdale is having their annual Spring Shooters Show. For those of you who've never been to one of these, they're a great chance to get out and handle a lot of guns and talk to factory reps about them. Also, if you find one you're interested in testing out a few different kinds, they'll waive the range fee and all you have to pay for is ammo to shoot. It's a great time to go out and look at a bunch of different types of weapons, and I think it'd be great if we could get a group together.

Because this is a big event, we will not be doing our regular shooting outing as the range is going to be pretty busy with people testing guns. However, I will be setting up one of those in the very near future. This is going to be a chance for those of us who are interested to get out and look at different guns and talk to factory people. I'm thinking we should meet up on Saturday morning, April 4th at 10am and go until we're done, then do lunch afterwards.

    So, Cliffs Notes:

Where: Bills Gun Shop and Range in Robbinsdale
    What: Annual Spring Shooters Show
    Who: Anyone who's interested
    Why: Because we can
    When: Saturday, April 4th @ 10am

    The link for the show:
    http://billsgs.com/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=222#drop

I plan on hitting up the guys from Lewis Machine and Tool ;)

Like I told you today, I'm there. And I'm really interested in that SIG 226 in .40S&W (of course I'll pick up those conversion barrels for 9mm and .357SIG for it too).

I may be interested as well, Brian. I will let you know as it gets closer to that date. Not that I will be buying another gun just yet, but it's always fun to look at new stuff, and maybe some accessory ideas for the XDM.

    Bump for more people.

This isn't something that you'll be obligated to buy anything or spend money. Think of this more as a chance to "test drive" guns that you might normally not be able to buy or a gun that you're on the fence about but you're not sure how you'll like it. It'll also be a chance to talk to factory reps about the products and find out what's coming up.

What are the chances to actually get in there and shoot? How packed does it get?

^ probably pretty good. Like Brian mentioned you can test the guns for just the cost of ammo I believe. So if you want to shoot something, say an LMT AR, chances are pretty good you will be able to.

I want to talk to the SAI rep about what the next verion of the XDm is going to be. If it will be .45ACP, 10mm, or another less common round.

You looking to buy another XDm?

Ted, if we get in there pretty early you shouldn't have any issues at all. I know you were wanting to check out those S&W M&P pistols, and IIRC Smith and Wesson will be there and can answer pretty much any question you'll have about them.

Nice. You're right, I'm pretty much down to the S&W M+P and the xd/xdm. Another chance to shoot both back to back would be great.

Both companies should be there so you could probably try the XDm, XD and M&P all back to back to see what really works out best for you. They would probably also have all the calibers there too, so you could try the XDm in 9mm.

Kind of. I am thinking more on the lines of getting one in a larger caliber if they ever do come out with such a thing. .40 is good but .45 is just so tempting.

Where did you find that for 450???? I want one of those in the worst way possible.

Hell, I'd even consider trading my Bushmaster for one of those.

Specs on that one and are there any more?

[cliff notes]I got VERY lucky[/cliff notes]

A guy I know from another forum, had it since '98 sitting in his closet.
    About two weeks ago I get a message on AIM;

    him: buy my M14
me: I didn't know you had one
him: Yeah, bought it years ago for a rainy day.
    me: wow, news to me
him: I want to turbo the S13 but I am on a very tight budget with school
    me: how much
him: I paid $650 but prices have gone up, how about $850
    me: SOLD
    him: really?
me: yes.. I have wanted one for (blah blah blah)
him: cool.. do you have any turbo parts for the S13
me: sure do, what do you need?

conversation goes on and on and we come to a deal.
    $500 shipped
    S14 T-28
    FMIC w/various plumbing parts
R32 BOV/BPV (same as 1g DSM but with 2 bar spring)
R32 HKS puck filter with MAF adapter

He then tells me one screw from the butt plate to stock is stripped, and there is a 1" crack at the forward sling mount. Feels bad, and drops the price to $450 + the parts. I agree and send him the stuff ASAP. He sends the rifle FedEx 2-day, and it arrives at my FFL on Saturday. First available appointment to pick it up was last night. $10.68 later and the rifle is in my trunk on the way home.

All the parts were removed from cars bound for the junk yard in Japan, so I paid nothing for them, and the turbo was on my S13 when I upgraded to a T04B.

It is a '93 Polytec M-14s (Chinese) Sadly it has the US friendly "flash suppressor" w/castrated bayonet lug. He bought it as NOS from an older gun dealer, and has fired about 400rds through it since "new" Over the years he lost a magazine, and cracked/stripped the stock.

The head space has some play is still in "GO" but I am sure it will be out of spec by the end of summer :D I already ordered a TRW bolt and Op-rod for it, and will be sending into Fulton Armory in the winter for the "Chinese upgrades" they do. $800 to bring the rifle to NM spec. So for under $1600 total spent, I will have an NM rifle that is better than a SA M1A NM for twice the price :)

Disclaimer:Polytec and recent Canadian market Norinco M14's use a receiver made of forged/machined 8100 steel. SA and most other US M14 clones use investment cast receivers of a material which is easier to machine than the stronger 8100. Also the Chinese rifles come with chrome barrels. Barrel and receiver make them closer to issue rifles than some of the overpriced US models. IMHO there is no reason to buy an SA beyond "owning the name"

...and no, it is not for sale. Not any time soon!

Also picked this up last week.

like I said, I am pulling back on buying fire-arms for a while. The PSL was supposed to be the last till the M14 fell in my lap.

I think my collection is big enough at this point. Plus I need to spend money on paying off my wife's WRX so I can get my next whip.

The M-14 I had was a polytech. I got it new but I never had one problem with it. I loved that rifle, sadly I was a broke college kid that wanted money for a plane ticket to see me soon to be fiance. I sold mine to cabelas in rogers for $475. I never should have let that one get away. The rifle....I still have the fiance.

I was given his card by a very good friend, and taken to his place. He has asked to only have his card passed to people that I can vouch for, "close friends and family." as he put it.

I am not trying to be an ass, just following his wishes.

I do know that Burnsville Pistol does it for $20 and their license is on the website in full color with blue signature that you can send to who you need.

That is a steal for the Norinco M14. I have seen ones in similar shape going for $800+ easily. It is true that they use the forged and chrome lined parts, which is awesome, however isnt is also true that the tolerances on some of their parts can be kind of lax? Which isnt really an issue unless you are looking at throwing new parts at it, specifically an optics mount (like the one pictured below).

I do agree that SAI and all of the other US made M14 Clones are horribly expensive. Although the used market isnt too bad. I still think that I got a good deal on my SAI M1A. Its just a Standard model but it only had 40 rounds down the tube (proper break in), some Sadlak and NM goodies, and was owned/maintained by someone very knowledgeable about M14s. Sure it doesnt have a chrome lined barrel but it will still do sub moa groups.

BTW: If you are looking for USGI Magazines I highly recommends 44mag.com. every once and awhile they have sales where you can get USGI 20 round (CMI new production) mags for almost 50% what anywhere else sells them for.

The reciever is about the only decently made part on Norincos/Polytechs. The bolt and all components are made of soft ass steel, the chrome lining decreases accuracy (it's very tough to lay an even layer of chrome lining in barrels, which make chrome lined barrels inherently less accurate), and the general fit and finish is worse than that off SA inc, LRB, Fulton. I have owned a Polytech and a Springfield Armory Inc, and the SAI is a much better and more accurate gun. Regardless, they're still a great entry level m14 clone, nice pick up.

The bolt is utter crap, and totally shot out. There is a reason I have a TRW already sitting in the safe waiting on fitment. There is a BIG debate on the chrome lined vs non-lined. And for a .5moa shooter it makes a difference, but honestly the M14 is not a .5moa. Hell the M21 I was issued was at it's very best with A136 was 1 to .75moa.

Other than the bolt the Chinese parts are pretty okay. I am giving my trigger group the NM treatment, and replacing the junk stock with a USGI model. I will be happy with 1.5moa out of it

But for the dollar for dollar I will be able to out shoot any of the US rifles out there ;)

So far I have seen some sub MOA grouping with my Springfield. Most are right around 1 MOA but I am not using fancy ammo. this summer I am going to buckle down and see what it can really do (hand loads). I wouldnt be surprised if I got some 1/2MOA groupings in the near future.
