Weird offer. Someone my wife works with offered to sell this. Audi A4 1.8t Quattro. All she knows is its turbo, all wheel drive, and manual. Motors toast something about sludge and not going to try fixing buying a brand new focus. Had something like 80k miles. Brand new tires in the last week. Just wants to get his money back for the cost of the tires. Is it worth getting.
Depending on the year, and if you can do the work on your own I would think about it. Guess it depends on whats fully wrong with it, can't imagine the tires cost more than $1k.
That's a tough one. German cars can be very expensive to repair and difficult to work on. Since its a 1.8t its a B6 model or earlier. Quattro is nice. If you have spare money and want a project it could definitely be worth the money. The 1.8t engine isn't exactly a tuners dream. Weaker internals and some reliability issues. If it ends up not being major it would be a steal as 80k miles isn't bad at all for that model.
Hmm seems intriguing. I mean if its <500 bones I'm sure you could make your money back parting it. And if you are handy put a working engine in it and sell for profit. See if you can get more information on the condition of the vehicle. Sounds like it wasn't well maintained if it has sludge issues at 80k. Those cars are usually pretty reliable but they do have their quirky issues like any german car. I think wheel bearings are a common issue.
Ok its a 2003. Just found out. Very little info on this car. Ya sludge is weird for that mile number. Ill see what else we here sounds to good to be true..
The 1.8's that come into our shop, that have the motor's toast because of sludge, is usually do to the owner not using a synthetic oil. The pick up gets plugged so bad that the time you would waste trying to "save" the motor you could buy a junk yard one and install it...if that one isn't toast already. Also be ready after 100k everything wants to go on a audi/vw.
My a4 had over 160k when it flooded, and I barely ever had an issue with it. Its like any other car, if you maintain it it will last. Sludge is a well known issue on one of the engine models (there were several different 1.8t engines) if I remember correctly, I just dont remember which one.
You'd probably get at least that amount back if you had someone haul it away. I wouldnt turn a wrench on one if you payed me, though.
Nothing new. Sounds like now hes going to get a estimate of repair then subtract that from the book value and try and sell it. So not looking to hot now.
