Twice a year the Chippewa Valley Sports Car Club hosts an autocross in Eau Claire. These events are typically part of the Met-Council points series, organized and run with lots of help from the MN Autosports Club, and are always a good time. Feel free to contact me or any of the other event officials in the MAE link, if you have questions. The Spitfire Challenge Autox at "The Big Lot" in Eau Claire. June 10th. Registration is now open at MAE. We've gotta limit this to 100 drivers, so go and get registered! Thanks for posting this up Rex, I didn't think to. Unfortunately, the MNSubaru Lax Cruise is the day before.
We've got 29 people signed up already and will need to cap this at 100. If you plan to go, please get pre-registered through the link in the OP. If room is available we'll accept registration in person on the morning of, but if we're full at that point we'll have to decline your entry. Don't hesitate, get signed up! If you're familiar with autox but not this site, take a look at the map link in the OP. Compare the size of the lot to the football fields across the street. This place is huge and we expect to be able to create a Nationals-quality course. This event is part of the Met-Council points series and is being organized with significant help from the MN Autosports Club. SCCA classing rules are being used.
Thanks for posting this...I was actually about to make a thread about this! Eau Claire is kinda on the way home from La Crosse, so I think this would be a great, after LaX Cruise, autox! I'm double-checking my schedule on the home front, but I would like to race in this!
Thinking about it. Anyone want to caravan? How large is this lot compared to midway, canterbury, valley fair, etc?
I will be driving up from Lax to EC, so anyone can join me. Here is an overview of the CVTC "Main Lot". If you look across the street, this lot is much bigger than the track/football field.
I forget what the exact dimensions are but it's bloody huge. Look at the satellite link in the OP. It's about the same area as 3 football fields, but a bit more square in shape. TONS bigger than Midway and a little bigger than either Valleyfair or Canterbury. Surface is beautiful.
We've got 52 people registered at this point and room for 48 more. If space is available you can certainly register on site the morning of, but if you're really planning on this I highly recommend pre-registering.
Perfect, so I take it the entire lot is usable and will the paddock will be the area outside of the lot? Looking forward to it.
I heard they might actually start the course from outside the lot, so you get a nice run into the big lot... Here nor there....if first timed runs are at 11am, do you know approximately how late we will run until? I need to be back home for family stuff before too late...
I think id prefer a rallyx style rolling start, but whatever, I'm not looking to be competitive. I could place dead last and id still have a blast in this car. When are you heading out?
Yup, the whole big lot is used. There are about 2 light poles in the entire lot to contend with when it comes to course design, and the single entrance exit, so courses are usually around the perimeter and 50-70 sec in length paddock is in the long strip parking lot on the other side of the building and it's a conga line start. I'll be there rocking the Timing cheif position, and as long as we get good sprint 3G signal, we'll probably have all the cool features like live online timing, etc.. I just want to make sure one thing is clear to people though, NOISE RESTRICTIONS ENFORCED - Max 95db. If you have an open wastegate, you probably won't fall under that DB limit. We do have calibrated sound equipment, and have to check this very carefully as this site has had issues in the past with sound complaints, but pretty much any normal Subaru exhaust will clear that range no problem. my full 3" turbo back with a high flow cat and blitz nur spec only blows about 89 DB max.
Nice, glad to hear that the whole lot is actually being used...sounds like it will be a fun course. Live timing online is always nice too, if possible! I would need to leave by about 5pm...so I should be fine, but I usually like to stick around and help pick up if i can.
Thanks for the confirmation, Shane! When are you heading over there? 8am or so? Text me if you want to caravan the long, boring drive out there.
Thanks for the reminder about the noise restrictions Shane. We plan to have the whole show shut down by 17:00. I doubt we'll run that late though, at our other site with similar attendance we're usually wrapped up by 16:30.
Are you going to LaX? I'll be at La Crosse on Saturday, and I'm planning on camping and then leaving from the campground on Sunday morning. The drive looks to be about 1:45 from La Crosse, so I'll probably leave around 7:30am... Are you camping, or are you headed back to the cities on Saturday?
I've never been to an autox where they charge you to spectate, I think its safe to assume there would be no charge at this event either. You will just need to sign a waiver when you get there. Depending on the club, they may also allow to you ride along with the drivers if you are interested and ask a driver. Most drivers are open to having people to ride along - you're more than welcome to ride with me if they allow it!
Only club instructors are allowed to ride along during the timed runs. If we have time and can do some fun-runs at the end of the day, buddy-ride-alongs are allowed then. No charge for spectators. Just sign the waiver and wear the wristband.
Yep, it's confirmed. There will be a BRZ at the event! The car is being prepped to be a nationally competitive autocross car. Might be worth the trip up from La Crosse to check it out. Sign up and turn a wheel.
Awesome, is it yours? Looking forward to seeing it perform...and if you don't mind, I may ask to sit in it to see if I fit. I wouldn't mind getting one eventually, but I'm 6'6" and have no idea if I fit. Besides that I finally got registered for the event and I'm officially attending. Looks like there will be a lot of subarus there...really looking forward to the event!
Not mine. Here is his build thread on NASIOC. This will be the first time out for the car. He just wants to get some time behind the wheel. Still really looking forward to seeing this run.
Car is owned by Bill Cook. I have the pleasure to co drive it with him this weekend. I'm really looking forward to it!
From the Nat'l Weather Service: Sunday: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 90. Breezy, with a south wind 7 to 10 mph increasing to between 21 and 24 mph. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph Breeze should be nice, but be prepared with sunscreen and beverages. A number of people from CVSCC are donating bottled water and Gatorade, but I can't guarantee how much there will be to go around. Just another reminder; there will be a concession stand there too, offering up brats and chips and cookies and soda and water.
