For those of you that don't know me. I had a good friend die in a crash in mid November 2009. He left behind a very young daughter. To help out the family and to make sure that I can do my part to help his daughter have the life he would have wanted her to have…. I am holding a snowboard competition in March to raise money for her.

Afton Alps has allowed me to take over their last and biggest comp of the year in order to raise money for this little girl. If you have never been to Afton Alps Spring Fling before it is a great time. Spring Fling has all sorts of shenanigans going on besides the snowboard comp. Water Skipping, Music, Food, Crazies ….. It is a good time even if you don’t ski or snowboard.

The event I am running will start around 3pm with sign up around 2pm. Spring Fling starts @ 9am when the hill opens. I plan on being there all day. There is a $10 or more (if you want to donate more to a little girl’s future) donation fee to enter the comp. Remember every penny going into this comp is coming out of my pocket and the sponsors. Every dollar collected will go into a bank account for Ava (my buddies daughter). Afton Alps is going to make a new snowboard park just for this event. Every year the park ends up being better than anything else made in the season.

    Current Sponsor List Includes:
    Afton Alps
    The FL Project
    The House Board Shop
    93X
    Rossignol
    Skull Candy
    Salomon
    L.R.G.
    Gernade
    Green Mill
    Minnesota Timberwolves

If you can make it out, it is going to be a lot of fun. This isn’t your Shawn White event. I have worked a few of these comps and people from all skill levels compete and win. Most of the people that do compete win something. I can say the last comp I judged in Jan ended with a giant box of goodies that we handed out to everyone involved. The big prizes are not just handed out to the best person there, but handed out to a group of people, so everyone wins. So you don’t have to be the best, you just have to have fun.

PM me with any questions or feel free to post in the thread.

    Bump -

    UPDATE:

We will be playing games of SNOW (similar to poser or horse) with the snowboard/ski community. I have 5 pro's lined up to have 5 different skill levels going on for the games. I have boxes of prizes, so most people will walk home with something. As well just because you aren't a pro doesn't mean you can't win. I have a comp for good and bad people alike. That is why we have 5 different skill levels. To make it fun for everyone. The longer you stay in the game the better the prize is. Afton is going to make a whole new snowboard park just for this event. Red Bull is coming out with free Red Bull and a giant Mobile DJ unit. This is going to be a blast. Come and make a 4 year old girl's future a bit brighter.

So the $5 is on top of the lift fee correct? I might do this man, looks like fun for a great cause.

Yeah, sorry. You only need a lift ticket if you are going to ride. It is free to come and kick it. Last year I just drank beer and grilled at the bottom of the hill.

I should also bump that all the 2010 / 2011 snowboard companies with all the new gear, will be out at afton this day with DEMOs. So if you want to try out a snowboard before you buy it next year, here is your chance to ride it for free. I know i will be rocking some skate bananas and other rocker boards that day. It is a great way to try a bunch of different snowboards, bindings and boots for free.

Yeah I really want to try out the rocker boards this year. I am in the market for a new board next year.

The levels are beginner - 17 year old kid who thinks he's the ****..... lol

I have 5 riders, and I think we might even use some sno dice to decide the trick since they are sponsor. But dude you would have a good time regardless. Believe me, there are more ok people than there are good riders.

Yep, they will set up a new park, so people can't get used to the jumps and school everyone else. The good news is that every hit should be untouched.... it will be a good day.

Just got off the phone with my Park Crew and we will have a new snowboard park for tomorrow! It sounds like a lot of boxes and rails. We just didn't have the weather to make the 60ft kicker like we had last year. It should be nice tomorrow, like 50*

    hit me up with questions
