what program can I get for free that will burn my files to the disc? So I can watch them through the DVD player and not just my computer. Thanks
Any video editing program should be able encode DVDs for you. There're a ton out there. Some of the more popular software packages are: Adobe Premier or Premier Elements Pinnacle Studio Sony Vegas Studio Here's a good link I found with video software reviews and details. If you're encoding .AVIs, make sure the program you choose can do whatever codec your AVI's are in (DivX or Xvid, typically).
I've used the free version of Any Video Converter to create the correct format mpeg files. Then I used a program called DVDStyler to create the DVD iso. Then burn the iso with Nero. http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ http://sourceforge.net/projects/dvdstyler/
Not that it's any help, but my DVD player plays DivX/XviD files directly off a disc, so re-encoding is not necessary. I've also seen DVD players here that have a built in USB socket for thumb drives, which means you can play your avi files directly on your TV without even having to burn the discs first. And these things are stupid cheap. How much more do you hate the MPAA/RIAA now ? Stuart.
Nero does it very well. which came free with a couple of the burner's I've bought. been able to put Top Gear onto DVDs playable in any player, with menu's and chapters.
I also have my laptop hooked into the 2nd HDMI port on my TV via the docking station I have for it, but it's very rarely docked. But yes, there's lots of options these days for playing avi files on your TV without having to master a DVD. I also tried Nero for this one time, and it seemed to work well. I even paid for the upgrade to the full version a few months ago, because it's a really good suite of tools, even if I'm not using the DVD mastering part of it. Stuart.
