anyone live in southern mn want look at this pile for me?? or has anyone seen this pile before? http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/dak/cto/3341190895.html
Good lord. $1500?!? LOL. That thing might be worth a third of that!! Ruined interior, ruined exterior, no jump seats.
parts availability for your current POS is much greater. Owning an 80's or older car has it's ups and downs. It's fun driving a time machine and the feel (manual steering, look and feel of the interior, real carpet, etc...) is definitely something I gravitate towards. But be prepared to search for days for a specific part and receive wrong parts often. The exception of course is any mass production domestic that shares parts with a billion other cars or still has many parts still in production.
thats what did for me lol jk. yeah I decided to pass I just dont have time for a project like this right now. someday I will own one though and it will be epic.
x10. This is a gen1 Subaru, second to last year of that body style. Very little is interchangeable with the '80s models.
Gotta love the Brats. I so wanted one when I was a kid. That one's a bit rough. I'd even question paying $500 for the thing. Realistically, it's about time to drive it to the junk yard, and they don't pay very well for scrap. I'd pay $250 for that thing...if it runs and drives. It would be an entirely different thing if a lot of work was done on it to restore it to good condition, but that, that is not such a car. You are buying rust heap that needs everything. I'm 35 miles from Wells living in Mankato, but I am not compelled to waste my time on that thing. I know, we all hate seeing Subarus go. It's just one thing to have a really clean car with almost nothing wrong. It's another to have a very worn out car, although 62k, if correct, isn't too shabby as a starting point. Too bad the old Subarus don't handle the rust nearly as good as the newer cars. It's really up to you if you think this is a worthy thing to own. Frankly, I'm a huge fan of the looks, and restored it'd be super neat. If you want to do the work, great. At that point, the condition of the car isn't a big deal as the intent is already heavy work. You won't be looking for something in pristine condition. Is this thing worth buying for a restore job? It really depends on the scale of rust, and unfortunately Minnesota isn't too friendly on anything but more modern, treated cars. I have an 02 Forester with ZERO rust and seen MN winters every year of its life. The metal's treated and the underside has a full rubberized undercoating from the factory. My 04 won't rust for the same reason + aluminum panels now. There's a reason why these things don't rust and it has nothing to do with me taking care of the car because I'd be lucky to wash the thing twice a year(kidding, but seriously sparse). Unfortunately, rust is the big thing you can't avoid and is most difficult to fix. Even living close, I don't know how much help I'd be. I don't see daylight during my work week, and my weekends are booked until mid December.
