I'll try to shorten this the best I can so you don't have to sit through painfull venting.

I recieved a call around midnight the other night from a friend of mine from california... he never calls late unless it's an emergancy so I figured it must be important.... turns out some other friends of mine from LA were comming back from London, and there plane had some major malfuntion and crashed on our runway... nothing too insane, but a very hard landing and a runway evac.

So he asks if I wouldn't mind picking them up at the airport as they don't have enough for a taxi, but had a voucher for a hotel....

So I huff it on over to the airport, and pick them up... so now comes the fun stuff.

so i've now left the airport, and just figured the hotel the airline booked would be in that retro location.. as there are tons of hotels by the MOA... so I get in the right turn lane for the exit ramp and ask which hotel they were booked at. they, tell me.. and I think ****... they booked them damn near by 100 north. so I quickly flip my left blinker on, look, and start pulling into the left lane.. out of the right exit offramp (more then enough lane left to be legal) ... so the f-150 to my direct left decided to be a prick and step up the gas and attempt to block me from making a safe lane change. my choice is now limited... I can either stomp the breaks, pray the bremos hold down tight enough for me to not hit the gard rail and leave me with enough room between the truck driver and the wall..... or.... step on the gas hard, roll on the shoulder just a little bit and pull ahead safely. I opt for option B.... I hit the gas hard, pull in front of the truck.. and not seconds after.. but a airport cop flicks his lights and pulls me over.

So i'm hoping the cop at least saw what had happend and I would be able to explain the situation. the second I rolled down the window, I was asked to step out of the car... and I follwed him behind my car, where he baically told me to shutup, put me in handcuffs, and tossed me in the back of his squad.

at this point he asked for my name....

then he asked if my friends in the car would be so kind as to drive my car home for me.... I explained in a calm manner my end of the story up till this point in time... about why I was there, who thos friends were... and why I did what I did. He then asked if theyt would be able to find the hotel just fine by themselves.... I then repeted where my friends were from, and that they didn't know the area. By now, officer number 2 shows up.... asks what was going on... and by good graces was a NICE female officer (rare in mn).. tells my friends if they would follow her, she would escort them back to the airport holding cell where I would be transported... and would give them a special area to park to wait for me.

I'm informed of what they offered my friends... I ask if I could speak to my friend and give her some simple easy crash coarse on driving my 6 speed so she doesn't **** up my clutch....

I was told "she can figure it out" as he takes off....

I'm put into a holding cell, asked a bunch of questions... THEN asked for my ID ... finger printed, mug shots.... then after all this is done.. he asks if my car has insurence on it (never asked me to prove this.. or my friends waiting in the car) then he writes me a careless driving ticket and tells me to watch myself.... walks me to the airport exit and promptly walks away.

my friends were astonished, and I'm ****ing livid....

now was this honestly because I made a crazy manuver to save my car,
or was this because I have a bright blue car with a big ass wing on the back and loud exhaust.....

    your opinions are all welcome.
My court date is Dec 15th.

dayem i'll prob do the samething if i was in your situation...but at the same time you gotta think what you're getting yourself into, especially at the airport that place is loaded with cops especially after a plane crash...but yeah i fcuken hate drivers who blocks me in just because they think they have a bigger car..."Yeah just take it to court and explain why you had to do what you had to do"...I'm sure the 5-0 pulled you over too because of the way your car looks too...sorry bro hope everthing goes well....

Why is it that MN drivers speed up to not let you in? It happens all the time to me so I just move over and cut them off. That officer was just an a-hole to run you through all of that. He had something up his rear. Hopefully the judge will be understanding.

If you got nailed by air port police I feel bad. Those guys seam to not have any rules what so ever to procedure. I had a buddy hauling a bobcat trailer by the air port and the trailer went over the line. They pulled him over and started threatening him with a ticket. They are complete ****s and should get there ass kicked.

Options.... report him to an upper, contact the media, talk to public relations at airport, and/or document everything including signed affidavides(sp) of all your friends and maybe even the other cop. Not that any of these will pan out but this kind of crap really pisses me off so I would do ALL of them... but then I am an a** that way.

Man I feel for you. I don't have a story like that, but at times there seems to be no accountability for cops actions.

bad cop! I'd get up to speed too! I ALWAYS get up to traffic speed so I can make a safe lane change. Just because I have POWER to get up to speed doens't mean they have the RIGHT to pull me over because I was matching traffic speed. The slower drivers who drive SLOW like 45mph in a 55mph make traffic bad, because everyone is going 60-65mph on a 55mph anyway.

Thats pretty crappy. Wouldn't a ticket be good enough? I can't find any reason for them to haul you off and put you through all the trouble. Definately go to court and explain your story. good luck!

um, considering the industry you used to be in, you can't exactly blame your car for getting you dragged in.

Sounds like a power tripping cop to me regardless of previous industry. Sounds like the cop was ready to rock long before he new who he was.

I'm 26, have short hair, and was clean shaven...
all my negative history was before I was 18, and had that been the case.. I think they would have torn apart my car searching.... IF.. that was the case...

but, it's been over 7 years clean... and I doubt they are still salty over times passed that far back.

he had no information on me untill after I was in his car...
and he didn't even run my plates... there wasn't any time for it.

I was pulled over, and he walked up to the car in moments, step out of the vehicle, and in the back of another one.

All that and you don't even have a record? I'll have to watch my speed as I drive by the airport on my way to work.

Huh? WTF?!?! I would not tell the judge this part of the story. Would hurt you in the credibility department. Big difference between a crash and a hard landing. +1 on getting signed affidavits from you friends.

****! he had no right to put handcuffs on you and do all them mug shots, finger printing and stuff.

I hate bitches like that, that won't let you merge onto the road. Hire a lawyer($100-200) and go to court.

edit: i've done a lot more crazy **** and I have never gotten harrassed like that

thats BS. if the cop saw you aceclerate he must have seen the truck next to you.

are the airport cops different from normal cops? cuase dont they have to run your plates and look for warrents ect.. before they appoach the vehicle to make help elimate the possibily of danger? sounds like he was out to get someone and it happened to be you. I HATE it when they do this. it profiling about cars. BS! good luck in court.

First, it only takes 10 seconds or so to run a plate. It's not an involved procedure. Type in the plate number, and the MDT (mobile data terminal) in the squad can actually read back (it's an annoying female voice) if the vehicle is clear, as well as the current status (warrant/non warrant/DL status) of the RO (registered owner). If there's a warrant, the DL is suspended/revoked or the vehicle is stolen, a warning tone sounds to alert the officer. Plus, when he radios in the traffic stop the dispatchers will enter the plate and we get the same information without the annoying female readback. If the RO of the vehicle has a warrant, we'll automatically assign a second squad.

Second, the Airport PD is no different than any of the local departments, they're just more localized in their patrol areas.

Now, for the conduct after the stop. I've never heard of or seen anything like that before. Assuming you're telling the whole story, I'd have to say that I think the cop was out of line, especially doing the whole booking procedure and then letting you off with a ticket. Because none of us were there, we've got to take your word at face value. I think you'd be justified in taking this one to court and fighting it. Did you get a badge number or a name? Call the Airport PD and tell them you'd like to file a complaint against an officer. The dispatchers will probably get your name and number and forward it to a sergeant on duty, who will then contact you and find out your side of the story. Stay calm, be professional and don't start hauling out the "I'm going to sue your ass" or anything like that, as it does absolutley nothing. I get threatened with lawsuits on a weekly basis, yet I have never seen the inside of a courtroom (well, not for that anyway ;) ). Tell him your side, and ask what the justification was for the officers actions. Once again, be reasonable and do not demand or threaten. The Sergeant will then decide what actions should be taken, if any. They do take complaints like that seriously, more so when you're calm about it, not a raving lunatic. Hope this helps.

the thing is, I can't please inocent... I wasn't for driving on the shoulder to pass a car.
I'm also not in the wrong for avoiding an accedent.

I'm not mad at the officer for pulling me over, and i'm not overly upset with the fact that I recieved the ticket.....

It's the manner of how the ticket was issue was what chaps my ass. I used to work security at the airport so I know how some of the stuff works, and i've never seen nor heard anyone treated like the way I was treated.

I'm not saying you should plead innocent, but you can at least ask why you were treated the way you were, and see if there is a valid reason why the officer put you through the whole booking process on a driving violation and then let you off with only a ticket.

+1 for friends to back you up. Strength in #'s. They were witnesses to the whole situation! But if they were out of towners you probably won't be able to get much help from them not being present in court with you, huh? Don't know, maybe signed confessions of what they witnessed would be good enough. Good luck to ya!

mmm pricky cops. I had a coworker that was a cop for a couple weeks, had to get out cause he couldn't stand the a-holes, lol. He can't stand stupid people. I'm sure if he stayed, he would have just pumled just about every other cop he worked with, lol.

I am kind of curious if what he did was even legal.
