I'm trying to replace the ball joints on my 2009 legacy and I can't get the ball joint to release from steering knuckle. Wondering if there's any easy way to do it or is heating it up gonna be my best option?
i used a little pry bar in the slit, and wailed on the LCA with a deadblow hammer until it came out.. always worked for me. if that doesn't work, snap on now makes tools specifically for the job: http://www.iwsti.com/forums/tools-discussion/249849-snap-bjr1-subaru-ball-joint-remover.html
pretty sure he meant the knuckle. Another trick is to insert a piece of steel in the slit, and thread the bolt in the threaded side of the knuckle to push on the piece you inserted, and press the knuckle open. A big fender washer would probably do the trick.
