Anyone have any experience with this dealer? (mods please move if posted to the wrong section). I was given some money to put towards a new car for Xmas and am in the market for a newer Outback. http://www.bedrockmotors.com/auto/u...ck_r_ll_bean_edition-blaine-55434-mn/5794261/
I have heard of them, but don't have any experience with them. These H6 Outbacks are fairly hard to find, and usually don't end up on a used car lot. I would definitely get a pre buy inspection. Subarus that end up on used lots are usually there because the previous owner didn't want to put the $ into fixing something. I sold cars for a long time, and a lot of sales came from the guy that didn't want to drop the $ on head gaskets, or bent rods, etc. The EZ30 with 5EAT is by far the best combination that Subaru ever made, in terms of durability, and longevity. This car has pretty low miles, in Subaru terms, so I would be interested in the history of the vehicle. Where did it spend it's life? Was it out on the east coast, and this could be a hurricane Sandy leftover? Pull back some of the carpet, and look for signs of flooding. How does the interior smell? How does the underbody look? Although Subarus are known for having headgasket issues, the 3.0 is pretty exempt from this, until you really get up there in miles. I've seen more valve cover gaskets issues in the 3.0 vs headgasket issues. Was this a local trade vs an auction? I know your initial question was regarding Bedrock Motors, but I figured I would throw in some common things to look for, if you decide to pursue this vehicle. Based on the mileage, if the history checks out, and you can get a clean bill of health from an independent Subaru mechanic, the price seems ok. The general rule of thumb for used car lots, is that they over price a vehicle, knowing that an interested party is going to haggle, and then they knock a little of the price, and meet somewhere in the middle, so don't be afraid to low ball a bit. Remember, used car lots never lose $, NEVER.
Thanks. I've got an 02 VDC that's at 180k so I'm familiar with doing VCGs and comfortable doing that myself if needed. They do have quite a few pieces of new suspension work, so that is definitely within the realm of possible causes of trade-in. I would be surprised if the H6 with that low of miles needed HGs but anything is possible and they usually fail very intermittently in the beginning phases... That said, low miles, good looking car (I love the 05-07s) and one of the more reliable drivelines offered... now if only they offered the EZ30 with a 6MT I would be happy for life!
Looks like the last owner only had it for a year. First person did a lease that expired. Second person got a loan kept it for about 5 years and probably traded it in when he was done making payments. The real question is why the next guy that bought it only kept it for less than a year, might be a perfectly good reason, but I would ask.
Smelled burning oil after test drive, some bearing noise from the idler pulley. Otherwise awesome vehicle. I offered 9K and they did not bother to counter. Salesman was kind of a dick throughout the process
