Yes, its a reality. BrewDog (out of Scotland) and Schorschbrau (German, if you couldn't tell by the name) BOTH make beers that are over 32% alcohol. There's actually been a "war" between the companies to make the strongest beer. The battle progression chronologically is as follows: BD- Tactical Nuclear Penguin - 32% SB- Schorschbock - 40% BD- Sink the Bismarck! - 41% Aaaaand now SB has a new beer that is FORTY-THREE PERCENT ALCOHOL. Wow. BrewDog's beers carry the following label: "This is an extremely strong beer, it should be enjoyed in small servings and with an air of aristocratic nonchalance. In exactly the same manner that you would enjoy a fine whisky, a Frank Zappa album, or a visit from a friendly yet anxious ghost." I thought some of the local brewers would enjoy this.
I think Four Firkins was supposed to have a couple of Brew Dogs beers but only their Punk IPA and Pale? My 11.25% Imperial IPA that I brewed a month back doesn't seem so big now. They're bottled in 22 oz bombers though
There are a few stores in MN that are getting them. The price will be around $75 per bottle whish is insanely rediculous. This still isnt not the worlds strongest beer. But if you like stronger beers try DFH 120 min ipa. Its more like a hoppy champagne really as its first fermented with ale yeast and finished up with a champagne yeast to get the rest of the sugars. Its 21 % and mighty tasty on a hot day. The closest place to buy it right now is Hudson. The distributor screwed the brewery out of a bunch of money and now they wont come to mn.
The strongest beer I ever had was Roger 'n' Out, brewed at the Frog and Parrot in Sheffield many years ago. It was 16.5%, and they would only serve it in 1/3 pint glasses. One night, I vowed to drink a whole pint of the stuff, but gave up on that idea after my second glass. I simply couldn't face the prospect of that last 1/3, so I dropped back to a lighter 8% brew that they had at the time. Oh, and these would be proper Imperial 20oz pints, not those poncy 16oz Colonial pints At $75/bottle, that 43% stuff damn well better come with a buxom German wench to serve it up properly.
