seems like a pretty good deal. flows 100 more cfm than the vf34 and 50 more cfm than the regular 16g. any thoughts? http://turbochargers.com/Turbos/TurboUpgrades/WRXUpgrade.htm
That's the turbo out of my car, TD05 16G. I like it a lot. More power than a TD04, a bit slower and noisier though.
the more i read...i think this particular turbo is a knock off. they are supposed to be the same ones that forced performance makes..but they are not. however, even if its a knock off, is it worth it? i guess i dont think so. there is a 1 year warrantly, but still.
for that price, i would think its a refurbished TD05 16g off of an early gen impreza turbo or liberty turbo converted from a 90 degree inlet.
The big 16G has been used by DSM guys for a good 7 years or so, it works good, the difference between it and the normal aka "small" 16G was usually not too much. The last few years, the popular 16G for the DSM guys has been the Evo 3 16G, it makes noticebly more power than the small/big 16Gs and has a deeper compressor wheel. In the last year or so that Evo III GT turbo came out which is a Chinese knockoff of a 16G, it isn't an exact copy and it's performance is questionable. I know one of the local DSM rally guys tried one and it failed very quickly. The price difference between the DSM versions of 16Gs, usually isn't all that much, even the knock offs. They are usually in the $500-$600 range for DSMs, I know bolt-on turbos are usually a fair amount more for WRX's though. BTW, Turbochargers.com doesn't have the best rep in a few different modding communities, but that doesn't mean you will have any problems with the product itself.
If it was me, I would get one of the monster 16g's from deadbolt. There has to be a reason that the deadbolt 16g is $900 and this other one is $600. The monster 16g is quite a bit more money, but it is fully ported and you might as well get it coated. Russ
