Who all is going up to BIR for the groupon deal September 12th. I know myself and RexNEffect are going for sure. Maybe Tim the Plumber? Anyone else?
I'm done testing our 2.5RS now that our RA1's are gone. But will be there to help instruct, BIR School has been pretty busy especially since it's coming to the end of the season. Let me know if anyone would like to be paired up with me. It's a great opportunity to put some names to some faces. I haven't been doing much driving in my own car this season since the motor's in the process of being refreshed.
^ will they still let people sign up even if they aren't part of the Groupon deal? I know a few people were interested.
Hex yes, you just give them a call. you can check with a friend of mine from Track Time Motorsports to see if he's hosting on that date, he can usually give you a better deal. http://tracktimemotorsports.com/day-at-the-track/registration1/
ahhh I still want to go....but the last test n tune killed my tires :-( I need to quit talking, and start doing! Perhaps later this season or early next year
I put this on a ""must do" list. I had a BLAST on Monday. I've never been on a track, (I'm not counting autocross ) and I was very comfortable going around.
Very nice video. I had lost track of everyone that said they were coming. We met at the track, I just didn't recognize you but you came to ask me what to do about the smoke coming from your brakes. It was nice to met you and I hope to see you out there again.
Smoke from the brakes goes to newbness... Thanks for the tip, no more issues during the day. Cut off hockey stick between the 2 seats. G0Pro makes a tripod mount, bolted through the hockey stick. I purchased a couple of big hose clamps and some clear tubing to cover the clamps and I just feed the clamps through the hole in the seat and the side. Very easy to install and remove.
Wow that is way more complicated that what I expected your answer to be.... I am borrowing the GoPro from my buddy for the 12th and I don't think he has that mount. I will have to figure something out, but I really like the view that you had. I am going to try and set something similar up in my car.
Speaking of this, do I need to empty everything out of my car. Things out of the glove box and center council? I know when we went to Rock Falls we had to do this to run.
Yes, and more. I'll post up a short list below. 1. Empty out your car a. glove box b. carpets c. center console d. baby car seat e. GF car seat f. trunk (everything including all secured objects) g. towels, tools, hoses from under the hood (I know some ppl stash $$) 2. Tools a. simple set of wrenches/sockets b. torque wrench w/1/2" socket c. gallon of water for radiator d. Flash light e. paper towels f. 5 gl fuel tank (E85 users) g. leather gloves h. tire pressure gauge i. others Prep prior to a high speed event a. bleed your brake fluid within 30 days of the event (Dot 4 recommended) b. bed your new track/street pads c. get your car inspected d. inspect your tires/brakes, bolts, nuts, fluids e. get your check list done at least two weeks before the event f. do some homework (get to know the track, watch some encouraging videos) g. others/get some rest and have fun! you're not there to be racing anyone at the event.....
It's not as bad as described, GoPro also makes a handlebar mount, REI has these in stock. You could use the same fomat with a round bar in stead of a hockey stick. I've also used the handlebar mount attached to my rear view mirror. The GoPro has the ability to flip the video automatically.
to add to the list of prep, double check under the seats. Nothing worse than a water bottle suddenly making an appearance under the brake pedal. (not me, my roommate...)
Yeah I was going to bring 2 takes of gas with for the E85. I take it there is somewhere that we can stash our tools / gas and not worry about them walking away?
FYI - When I used my Groupon deal earlier this summer there was no tech inspection at all, and people did just throw their stuff wherever, and it all seemed to be fine.
September 12th hasn't been listed on their website for quite some time now. I take it that means they are full for the day? ~Dan
TTM will usually just piggy back with the BIR schedule depending on his availability. I don't think they are full yet.
i am hoping i can make it. I haven't called and reserve a spot yet but i can't til later on friday. anyone now if you can show up and jump in if there any openings?
anyones elses driver front tire seem to be little more worn then the rest? that was a blast well worth it Going to have to do it next season, and get alot more of use there.
Heh. BIR is very hard on the driver front tire in a car with a typical street setup. Lots more turning right than left. We really roasted several Start Specs at the ChumpCar races in June '10
What you can do next time is lay off turns 1 bank, 2 tight, 3, 8 carousel and 13. That should fix that issue.
