Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.

Very Important for you to be aware of a new bill HR 45 introduced into the House. This is the Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sale Act of 2009.
Even gun shop owners didn't know about this because it is flying under the radar.
To find out about this - go to any government website and type in HR 45 or Google HR 45 Blair Holt Firearm Licensing & Record of Sales Act of 2009. You will get all the information.
Basically this would make it illegal to own a firearm - any rifle with a clip or ANY pistol unless:
    •It is registered
    •You are fingerprinted
    •You supply a current Driver's License
•You supply your Social Security #
•You will submit to a physical & mental evaluation at any time of their choosing
•Each update - change or ownership through private or public sale must be reported and costs $25 - Failure to do so you automatically lose the right to own a firearm and are subject up to a year in jail.
•There is a child provision clause on page 16 section 305 stating a child-access provision. Gun m ust be locked and inaccessible to any child under 18.
They would have the right to come and inspect that you are storing your gun safely away from accessibility to children and fine is punishable for up to 5 yrs. in prison.
If you think this is a joke - go to the website and take your pick of many options to read this. It is long and lengthy. But, more and more people are becoming aware of this. Pass the word along. Any hunters in your family - pass this along.
This is just a "termite" approach to complete confiscation of guns and disarming of our society to the point we have no defense - chip away a little here and there until the goal is accomplished before anyone realizes it.
This is one to act on whether you own a gun or not.

Just to be a negative nancy...

Have any of you read the bill, and can you summarize in a non "FW:FW:FW:FW:RE:Look at this!!11!" way?

The OP just seems like the type of information that Michelle Bachmann was spreading about the stimulus bill..

/preface: FYI I am neither a gun owner, nor a supporter of crazy gun prohibition laws.

I read BW's post just above the last one here, and I fail to see a problem with this. Don't you already have to submit to a mental and physical exam to get a license anyway? It makes sense that you'd have to do that again if you're renewing it.

But yes, what he posted there sounds MUCH more feasible than the OP. But I could be wrong.

Wish that drivers licenses were this strict. We could sure use mental exams when we do our renewals for those.

And another thing, I am GLAD that someone is putting measures in to protect children from their parents' carelessness when it comes to guns. Face it, there are a lot of dumb people out there that leave their guns where kids can get them. This would force them to lock the gun up - again, not a problem.

(sorry, editing this as I go along hehe)
From what I read there, I don't thnk anyone has to worry about anything if they are going to purchase a gun. Unless ... you have somethng to hide. It would be a much bigger deal, and there would be much more uproar about it, if it was deemed unconstitutional or whatever. Where is Shorty when you need him? :)

I guess the only thing I can see needing guns to be prepared for is the zombie apocalypse, and I'd be fine with a shotgun in that instance ;)

    Zombies can't sue you either.

I am not against the protection of kids.. to me that is just common sense with gun ownership but some people shouldnt be allowed to use air yet alone a gun...

I am more concerned about the government more and more overstepping their ground..

Heck I dont even own a gun.. but I support those who do.. and will own soon

    Nate (Bullwinkle) and Nate (TSTRBOY2003)

You both missed a key part of this bill that tend to fly under the radar. It's the part where Rep Rush slipped in the part about "striking U.S.C Sec 18", which is the part that prohibits a centralized gun registry. This bill would create exactly that. A centralized gun registry that tells who owns exactly what kind of guns, so if/when they decide to ban them all, they know exactly where to look. This has happened before in history in other countries, so we're not treading on new ground here. The prohibition on loaded guns for home defense or concealed carry is also pretty spooky.

The only people this is going to affect are legal gun owners. I know the waste of life who shot Blair Holt couldn't get a gun legally as he was too young. Of course, he was in Chicago which is already one of the most restrictive areas in the country when it comes to gun ownership. The percentage of crimes committed by legal gun owners is miniscule compared to those committed by illegal guns/gun owners. Instead of doing things that will make a difference in getting those guns/*******s off the street, they just make it harder and harder for those of us who actually follow the law to own guns.

The irony of Bobby Rush (A former violent Black Panther) introducing this bill and naming it after a 15 year old who died shielding another person with his body on a bus from another juvenile shooter (who announced what he was going to do at the bus stop before he got on the bus and no one stopped him) is just sickening.

Our political system is screwed. I'm betting we're in for some very, very ugly changes in the upcoming years, and I'm not referring to the next 4 or 8. Our country as we knew it is on the way out :(

And Steph has a good point.

Most of the stuff that's in there is already required. The scary part to this is the central registry (among a few other things). I found a couple of good writeups on this that I'll have to dig up and post.

Thanks for the more knowledgeable posts, Brian. That's a little more what I was looking for. There are many things in your post I do not disagree with.

I, however, do not consider a central federal gun registry a bad thing (maybe I am not considering all the repercussions?). Honestly, I think your statement about the US government banning all guns is a little "tinfoil hat-y." I do not see that happening for a number of reasons.

In the words of wikipedia: "[citation needed]"
The only inspections (section 403) I can find are for businesses that manufacturer, sell, or distribute firearms. (Any othe regulation would be so wildly against any constitutional interpretation that no one would do otherwise)

hey.. I just posted something I found/got... I dont know a whole lot about it all.. but NM+ tell me seriously where th =e government hasnt overstepped its constitutional rights in many areas...

heck look at that politician Murtha?? who says that we dont have to pay taxes, it is a free choice, but when asked "so we dont have to pay them?" he answers yes you do or the government will force you or throw you in Jail... so what is it.. its the radicals that ruib it for everyone left or right...

anyways.. sorry if I posted something that may turn too political... just another thing that the government is overstepping in...

It oversteps the bounds that the current sitting supreme court has set down. Regardless of what ou think about thier interpretation, this means that a section like that would be unconstitutional.
Instead, it is perhaps the most reasonable part of the statute, because it gives the government real power to monitor gun distributors who may have an alternate revenue stream (and is prefectly consitutional under the interstate commerce clause).

England, they may want to collect back taxes.

I am in the same boat. My XDm and M14 like the magazines, they would suck without them.

I wonder how much money has been spent on high capacity magazines in the last 8 months (pre and post election) I would wager that the Firearms industry is the only one that is BOOMING (pun not intended) right now. HAs anyone looked at trying to find a place that has a DPMS rifle instock for more than a day?

This is untrue. To get a permit to purchase you need only just go to your local PD and file out the paperwork (includes SS# and DL#). This paperwork is than used to run a background check, which will bring up major issues. ie. criminal history, if you have been checked into a mental hosptial, ect... You dont have to run laps or sit down with a psychiatrist to qualify for it. The permit is good for a year, at which point you need to go through the process again. In addition to this there is also an on the spot background check during the purchase (this is all that is required for purchasing most long guns).

This is a very interesting bill. I knew that something like this would come along at some point. I suspected it to be a very high visibility issue (as it normally is). I also see the concern that Brian has about a centralized registry. It has benefits and negatives to it. The main benefit is that the Government would know exactly who had which guns and where they lived (if purchased legally), for help in locating potential criminals. This wont help for criminals who secure guns illegally (no gun control will). For the same reason it is also a negative. For those in the "tin foil hat" group (NOT necessarily a bad place to be!) it is a way for the government to know what you have so at some point they can take it away.

Interesting times. If I had stocks, I would have sold anything automotive and bought Colt, DPMS, Springfield Armory, Bushmaster hands down.

Another thing I am predicting to come down the political tube, is some legislation against the production of ammunition. Guns down work (well) without ammo. It would most likely be much easier to pass than any sort of gun ban.

After reading a bunch about this, what it seems to be trying to do is eliminate face to face sales of handguns and semi-automatic rifles. This is a freedom I have enjoyed in the past. Why does the government need to be involved in a sale between two (non-FFL) private parties? If you want to sell your best friend your baseball bat, do you ask the government if it's ok first?

The OP is expressing concern that the licenses will not be free and they will not be easy to get. This is a valid concern. Right now permits to purchase in MN are free and easy to get in less than a week. That's not the case in other states, and it could always change here.

These bills are all little stepping stones towards the goal of eliminating all gun ownership. If you don't believe me, try buying a gun in england or australia. A lot of people really think taking guns out of the hands of the law abiding public will somehow magically stop gun crime. How you can come to this conclusion is beyond me.

Probably the biggest crime here is that this bill has nothing to do with Blair Holt. Someone just attached a dead kids name to it for attention. Nice work.

Well, a baseball bat is not designed for killing things, unless it's the new bat unlockable in TF2 for the scout.

Well, the first part is conjecture. The second part is incorrect. Stronger gun laws and restrictions will not stop crime carried out by those who obtain guns illegally. That is a police issue, and not one that will be solved with legislation.

In the case of this bill, its main intent appears to be to to prevent accidental deaths and injury to minors.

Meh - I'm really not keen on being required to submit to a evaluation of my physical and mental health, but I wouldn't be opposed to an enforced process checking for recorded history of severe mental illness and denying gun ownership to people with history's of mental problems combined with violence.

Also, I'm pretty against things like the govt. being able to come in and inspect to ensure that your guns are locked away from your kids, but I'm not against guns having to be locked away from kids being a law - just no waltz right in and check officer crap.

And do people REALLY think the people making these laws are planning and scheming towards an eventual end of disarming us all??? I really doubt most intention's are that.

But, I can't even own/use/hold/look at/come within a hundred yards of/etc. a gun, so I guess it's kind of a moot point for me personally. Of course, that's its whole own rant .....

I have no prob with the psych evaluations etc...

but yeah when teh government wants to come in and look in your house.. NO THANKS..

we are going through this with the County wanting to inspect our NEw House to evaluate it.. My wife asked if we should refuse them coming into our house and looking around... what right do they have.. but then we cant fight the value they give it... but then again they will over-inflate the value to what it would be in an ideal circumstances, even though the market would probably rob us of a few hundred thou... cant win wiht the government...

That process is already in place, if you'd ever applied for a permit to purchase you'd see the background paper work you have to fill out. Also, it's been said earlier in the thread by nm+ that the inspections would be for businesses, etc. And yes, disarming the country is a valid concern. History repeats itself, and these are some of the same steps that have been taken in the past. Some people haven't figured out the "Shall not be infringed" portion of the 2nd Amendment.

I'm with you on this, right up until the last sentence. This bill doesn't really introduce anything new other than adding a centralized registry of firearms. There are already laws and penalties in place for each of the things that this bill talks about. It's a crime to leave a loaded gun where a minor can get to it. A govt issued photo id to purchase a gun? Sounds like a drivers license to me. What this does do is expand government and allows them to know who owns what and where, and I'm against either of them because it does nothing to solve the problem of Billy ********er capping someone with his illegal gun. (edit: Gang bang is in the swear filter? Jesus  )

Here is the section of the bill:

    http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c111:1:./temp/~c111g6iBzw:e18607:

Here is the section of 18 U.S.C. in question:

    http://law.onecle.com/uscode/18/926.html

This bill would allow the AG (an avowed anti gun person) the ability to set up a centralized database, something the Firearms Owners Protection Act was specifically aimed at to protect gun owners and their rights. The current majority in our government is not 2nd Amendment friendly, IMO. I forsee attacks, both overt and otherwise on our right to bear arms. Whether it be ammunition taxes, a central registry, ammo bans or otherwise, each of them is another step closer to banning firearms completely.

An article I read the other day:

    http://virginiashootingsportsassoci...02/state-department-floating-ammo-import.html

While I realize that this isn't confirmed nor completely verified, I could easily see the current administration doing this. The previous Assault Weapons ban did precisely nothing that it was supposed to, other than ban "scary" looking guns. A real Assault Weapon is full auto and illegal unless you live in a Class III legal state and you have a valid tax stamp.

Something I found that I thought was interesting:

Does anyone know what one would need to do in the state of MN to get a class III permit and tax stamp? I have tried looking but have come up with only vague and worthless answers.

Also Brian I found the other part of your picture. The Government gets to have all of the fun stuff.
