So these guys are really getting on my bad list. The guy that I had dealing with me before was nice pleasant and all that. This new Tim guy Rep number 468 is what it says as on paperwork.... He is indicating that I should't merge into traffic in 3rd gear (65-70 little over 4k rpm). 35W and 13 south of the cities the speed limit is 65, but anyways, My sycro's make a grinding noise from 3 to 4th. I dropped if off to be checked. They said that they couldn't make it happen. Is that because they cant take the car above 3k rpm? Sad thing was that I couldn't reproduce it when I went either. I don't know why. But point being is that he started to say **** like, "that is unreasonable use of the car", "you shouldn’t drive like that", "I don't have to use 3rd" (probably because he is one of those people that are not at speed when getting on the free way)

I know the 02's had some problems with their syncros. This is really pissing me off that he is being such a dick and giving me the run around. Also that he indicates that this car shouldn't be used in that fashion. This isn't a daewoo....

I had similar problems from 4th to 5th in my 99. I took it to White Bear and got the same answer; I even took an employee on a drive and reproduced the sound. They took it and said they couldn't reproduce the sound when they drove it and were nice enough to charge me $100 for looking at it. Bastards

Well at least I didn't get charged the 100$'s. If you were able to reproduce it for them they should have done something.... Did you get your trany fixed in the end?

That isn't the part that is pissing me off. Basicaly they are indicating that you shouldn't drive the car over 3k rpm. WTF?

I am acctualy currently drafting up a letter to them and subaru of north america....

No didn't get it fixed in the end, they stood by the fact that nothing was wrong. It wasn't a terrible grind, and it only happens once in a while so I think I may have been a bit anal about what I was hearing.

Yea that’s BS when the service guys try and tell you how your car should or shouldn’t be driven. Fact is you're gonna drive it how you want to.

Bloomington Acura Subaru is where I bought mine, and lost the warranty because they said there was no "boost restrictor orifice." I had some of you guys check it out and they were like WTF is that. My boost controller was hooked up EXACTLY how it should be. NOTHING BROKE and they wouldn't honor the warranty. I hate this flippin up tight stick-up-the-arse place.

if your gears scratch while shifting why don't you just try to change the manual transmission fluid and see how it goes from there.

I have heard good and bad things from Bloomington... That being said, I have yet to have any issues with them. They have not hassled me (although the STi is still pretty much stock) and have corrected everything I reported. Granted, it was only some loose wiring harnesses on the RS and TWO leaky shocks on the STi. It really depends on who you work with, I have been lucky. I know they are at least somewhat aware of it as when I had the STi in last month I sat down with Scott Putnam (we go back a ways) while the car was in and he mentioned that they would probably come back with "no issue found". There is a mechanic there that works on the rally car and he said if the diagnosis was not what I was looking for, "bring it in when Matt is in." Fortunately, they came back 15min later with the right diagnosis... two leaky shocks in the rear.

As for the comment by Tim, was he the guy you talked to when you brough the car in? I will shoot Scott an email on this, it isn't right for them to say that. The car has a rev-limit for a reason. As for them not finding the problem, I heard that a few times on the RS at BP Morries concerning the clutch shudder, back in the day. I gave up because I was putting in a new clutch anyway... It is remarkably common for them to have trouble reproducing issues. One thing to note, however, they are going to treat the car like a baby ever since all the reports of the abuse on STis while in dealers hands. If it requires any sort of aggresiive driving, don't count on them reproducing. (Yes, I realize not everyone treats the car like a baby, but the dealers are definitely more sensitive to it now! ...people even lost their jobs over abusive driving)

My $0.02... I'll let you know what Scott says.

it is just 3rd to 4th and that realy wasn't the point of this. It was more of a he is being a dick and saying shifting at 4k - 4.5k rpm is miss use of the car.

I understand why they will not drive it like that that is why I went down there to do it (don't know why it didn't grind then). Now today it is grinding again after 55 mph. I was cruzing between 55 – 65 and just shifting. Not speeding up or anything. I noticed that if I let the RPM get under 3k it didn’t make a sound. I know it isn't the gears, it is the sycros.

A friend of mine is friends with the manager of at Morries in Minnetonka and depending on what you say, and after I talk to the manager at Bloomington, I am done with them. There work that they have done has been fine, but the crap that came out of Tim’s mouth is ridicules. I will take my NSX and WRX other places. It was just easier to get there.

The last time I went to WB Subaru for a slipping 5th gear, they couldn't reproduce it. When I got back with the loaner from them, I took out my car with a tech and reproduced it. No questions asked, they fixed it for me and it never slipped out of gear again. Sometimes they're good, sometimes they're not.

One of the shady salesmen at Bloomington Subaru/Acura was trying to sell me an '03 WRX a while back that had a bunch of stuff done to it (uppipe, TBE, UTEC!, lowered, and what looked like the remnants of nitrous lines). Anyways, he was telling me that the previous owner was a 17 year old kid who's dad made him trade the car in because he was getting way too many speeding tickets.

Obviously, anyone with a brain wouldn't purchase this car.

I then go on to ask about the factory warranty....

"No problem, just buy an extended warranty from us...."

Yeah ok, dickhead. [xx(]

I can second that. I purchased my wagon from there, and they have been nothing but awesome to me during the sale of the car and when I had to bring it in for synchro (replaced 1st and 2nd gear synchros) warranty repair.

Well it realy looks like it has to get fixed sooner than later. I continued to use 4th and now it is grinding again when shifting into 4th one time even in the mid 40's even though it wasn't as noise as at 55. Maybe not using it for a few weeks had made it better, even though I cant think of a logical explination... chin is talking to scott at bloomington and I will see what he has to say. It will be at 1 of the 2 shops at the end of the day tomorrow. I will keep everyone updated as to how this turns out.

Really this suproses me, Bloominton has always been great with me, even before I bought a car there, I took out a few cars test diving when i was much younger, they never flinched. All service I've had done there has been great, heck with all the trouble I've had, I never once had to raise my voice or even imply I was getting mad to get things done. Honestly I've only ever had good expeinces there. Hopefully they'll do you right too.

I think it's dependant on how they feel that day for ANY dealership. One of my father's coworkers bought his WRX from Morrie's Minnetonka about two or three years ago. Anyway, he brought it in for service and they nailed a huge dent in his front left fender and refused to pay for it.[xx(]

They had been great before for me too. I had them put on the h6 rotors to save me the time from having to do them while I was in brazil and while they fixed the car from that small curb problem.

I think it is just this Tim guy. This is my first time dealing with him. I had Jason Hassen (sp?) before and he was always helpful. At any rate Scott is going to switch me to someone else who isn't so hard to work with. Maybe I just got off on the wrong foot with this guy. At anyrate I had my freind drive the car last night too, and it was happening as low as 3.7 k rpm (52?), but consistant after 4k rpm (55-60 mph).

I understand at the slower speeds the syncros are not spinning as fast and that could be why it would make sounds only at faster speeds, but don't you think that I would still get a little sound shifting from 5th to 4th? Diffenrt sycro? Anyways I just want to figure out what is going on and fix it. I am thinking on taking the sycros to deversified cryogenics.

Well so far it has been one delay after another, and if I don't call they don't seem like they will. It is becoming an inconvience to have my brother waiting on me to call if I can take it in.... If it doesn't go in for work this week I will try at Morries too. Who over there should I talk to. I have the name of Russell Lawrentz who is a freind of some one here at work.
Anyone you suggest AWDimprezaL?

Russell originally sold me my car(after Putnam changed dealerships and forgot to tell me). However, sometime in 2002 he went across the street to expensive cars and I've been bounced around to new salesmen ever since. Maybe he's back? But I don't know that he'll give you any better service than someone else.

I am talking to Putnam at the Acura/Bloomington one, but he seems to have his hands full... I just want this taken care of before something major happens to the trany. It has now started to chunk a little downshifting from 5th to 4th too.

I've had good experiences with Bloomington in the past. They are the ones that changed out my clutch under warranty. They weren't able to reproduce when I brought the car in, so I told them to keep it overnight. They were able to reproduce it then, and replaced the clutch without question.

BP Morries I will never go back to for sales/service, it was just not a good experience. I still go there to get my filters and crush washers though.

MTNKA Morries I have mixed feelings about. I went there originally to look at cars since that is the closest to my house. They were moderately busy, so they took my drivers license and told me to wait, I had no problem waiting for a salesman. 45 minutes later (with salesman sitting around), they ask me if I need any help. I tell them that I am waiting to test drive a car, and they already have my license info. They "act" suprised, and send some crusty old shyster saab salesman to take me on my test drive. He lets me take it from the 394e exit out of ridgedale to hopkins crossroads, and tells me to take the frontage road back because it will be faster and he had something to take care of, WTF. Obviously this doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the competency of the service department, but normally it is a good indication.

I'm no fan of Bloomington Acura Subaru either. Had several cases of really crapy service from the parts department. I treat people with respect and I expect the same. Instead I've been very respectfull and been treated with audible *sighs*, rude attitudes, and poor service. Just my experience over the last few years dealing with them; kinda glad couple other Subaru dealerships have poped up now.

What's up guys, first post and had to rant on Bloominton Subaru/Acura. Before I bought my 02 rex I was looking at some CL Type-S. Bloomington happened to have one so I stopped by to test drive. The salesman looked me dead in the eye and said when you buy it you can drive it! I was f'in furious! Of course I was dressed in jeans and a crappy t. The next day I went back in with my typical business attire and asked for the manager. Don't remember his name but he was an a-hole too. He gave me a brush off apology and didn't even offer to let me drive it. Yet I still gave them another shot a couple of months later when a buddy was looking at new TL's. We asked for a salesperson(on a weekday with no other customers there) and proceeded to wait 45 minutes. So now I am in need of some recall work and will probably check out Morries. MHO though.

To be fair Scott Putnam did try to help, and the old service rep I had was good, but for this I have the feeling that they have almost no intention to work on it under warrantee, and I detest that Tim guy.
I have decided that since they will probably not do it under warrantee that I am taking to the trany place near me that have aftermarket syncros which are stronger than OEM. They have done gear swaps for friends and have done a fine job, and they can still submit to SOA for what it is worth. We will see if Dave Herbert checks it out.

I am going to have them pull it all and take it down to diversified cryogenics. This also in a way means I am abandoning the rest of my warrantee in my mind, so the full on mods will start to happen. I got those Perrin sway bars from Steve-O (thanks again for trying to get a group buy), and a few other things waiting to go on.

As for Bloomington Acura Subaru I am probably done with them for the Subaru, but I might still get my oil filters for the NSX there, or Russ if he can get me filters for the NSX.

Well I have my WRX back now. The tranny kicks ass. It was NEVER this smooth. I think the subaru people just didn't want to admit that the 02's have had tranny problems.

Called in TUE for an oil filter and air filter. Dude on the phone was flat out rude. He did however find the parts, said they were in stock, and gave me a price. I told him I would be in after work.

Get there after work and its two other guys. Thankfully one guy knew wtf was going on and found the parts quickly in a book. The other guy fumbled around on the computer then brought back the wrong air filter.

Sadly this was prolly the best experience there yet :p

Bloomington Acura/Subaru.... I bought my car (from Eau Claire) in January. It had 25k on it. It had a few things wrong with it. The first thing I brought it in for was a fuel leak. They said it didn't do it. They called after that to see how the service was. I told them horrible, they didn't fix anything. Then the service manager (Jim Syler. SP?) called me and set up another appointment. Then I looked up all of the technical service bullitens. They had it for two days and then replaced the fuel lines with updated lines. This was after I called Morries. (nice guys) There was a TSB for the clutch judder. They ended up replacing the flywheel, disc, pressure plate and throw out bearing. I also made them replace the front speakers and check the AC. They did dick around quite a bit, but when it was all over I did get the things that were wrong fixed. I ended up going there more than 4 times all told.

Moral of the story. Bring print outs of service bullitens that describe your problem. It sure helps.

Derek
