well, decided to mess around with some stuff on the kit since I am debating taking it off (rubbing on the CV). was having problems holding over .2-.3 bar. sorry for the blurry pic.

    went from this:

hmm... to take the kit off or wait a while???.....

EDIT: and the duct tape is holding just fine!

Yeah, you can spend all day and night dingle fartin' around with that motor, and like two minutes with a wet rag on that dash.

yeah so the dash collects some dust big deal. Boost is the real concern hear. I need to have a new uppipe made so that it doesnt rub on the cv boot and consistantly cost me $60 and alot of time to keep running.

As such I am planning on removing the kit until I can have this new pipe made. now that I have this all figured out I will be much more at ease putting the kit back on. Although I will need to get a RRFPR since I can feel a couple hiccups through the rev range and my wideband is being as helpful as i would like. I am also half tempted to get this dynoed before i take it off just for reference.

I have already tried that method of persuasion. I used a 4lb maul and went to town. the area of the uppipe is right on a curve where there is a weld seam. I made alittle progress enough where is isnt rubbing as bad on teh boot. in order to truelly fix this i need to have this pipe rewelded with an extenstion piece. I have also put some spacers between the headers and up pipe to get some more clearance. it has helped out enough where i can drive it but isnt a long tern solution. it is however better than the 5 miles i made it before the cv boot went before i did this stuff.

correct. I dynoed 113whp and 137wtq. alot has changed between these setups. for one I am running more boost than before, also i have smaller injectors and no crazy fuel map. I am 99% sure that I am making noticeably more power this time than before.

I will not help you take the turbo off. I will, however, help put a thinner CV boot on there. I think one of these that I had from JCWhitney would solve your problem. more expensive than your usual kit.....but I think it would work.

Martin use teh BFH with a torch.... get the welded area/pipe cherry then hit....

had to do Jason's like that on his car before the LAX cruise last year.... but with a big bar and torch to get clearance on his crossmember and DP... works like a charm...

is your kit like kellys? i have some scraps laying around that we could fix that up pipe with. his was a easy kit to make if you need yours tweaked. let me know.

Matt you are right that when i was dynoed it was super rich. IIRC there was gas coming out the muffler. the "tune" i had was just to make sure i didnt blow anything up lol.

I will give it another shot with the BFH. I will also get the acetylene torch out to aid the process. We will see how it goes.

my kit is alot like kelly's. The main issue is that when we made the uppipe my car was running a different suspension setup. I throw on some different springs and the car rides lower now which changed the angle that the axle is at. This new higher angle is causing the problem.

it took me a hour to make kellys up pipe. if i was you i would just make one that fits better so it flows smother then a dented one you are about to have

hehe. I already attacked it with the hammer once. The pic below is was happened right after i put the kit on. So i then took the hammer to it and put some extra flanges in there to gain some space. it was a temporary fix. I need to have this pipe modified or a nwe pipe made. If Nathan still had a lift, bender, and welder all in the same place this would be an issue, lol.

yea....but that's on the inner joint though...right? no way would a suspension setup change the position of the inner joint that much.

I blame it more on the new headers. something must be at a slightly different angle.

    order one of these up:
    http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/...01137/p-2001137/N-111+10201+600003650/c-10101

I love 'em. and narrower than stock. tomorrow I'll get a picture of one mounted on an axle. it might give you the clearance you need.

i thought something similar. However the axle is sitting pretty much straight across in the front. last time i had the kit on the axle still had a downward slope. I think the angle has alittle to do with how the boot flexes and where the high points are.

You very well could be right that the new headers are causing the problem. I never thought about that. alittle height change there would make a large difference.

I ended up taking the kit off yesterday. I pulled the uppipe to do some persuading, but upon examining it, i would need to basically pound 3/4" out of it to get a level of clearance where i wouldnt have to worry about rubbing. i think its for the best right now. I really wasnt happy paying 20 cents or more extra per gallon to get less mileage. also i dont have the time money to keep up with this project right now with school.

With the exception of thi up pipe fitment issue the kit works like a charm. so chances are it will make its way back on to the car.... then to a dyno :)

do you have the stuff for bending? its such a tight space, its kind of finicky to make everything fit nicely.

if i don't have a tight enough mandrel bend then i do a pie cut style. but only if it needs to be really tight. i have one tight 90 degree bend left that i have left over from kellys car. should work for yours as well
