Stupid question but my stock battery works fine in the ugliest of cold-winter-left-outside-over-night-in-the-middle-of-nowhere-in-the-midwest-conditions. Why one of these?
Well, you wouldn't want one of these in a MN winter. But during the summer, you'd be dropping 20+lbs of dead weight from the nose of the car. This is good, since it's taking weight off of one of the places we want it gone from the most. Stuart.
These batteries are designed to shave weight. If you have a weekend race car, rally car or drag car then something like the 6 or 9 pounder will suit you very well. This is because the cars in this category will most likely have no stereo, ac and so on. The factory WRX battery is 32lbs so using a 6lb battery would be a great benefit. For the others like dailly drivers and all season drivers, the 11.5 and 15 pound all season are the ones for you. You get the weight savings of over 50% and the capacity to withstand the enviroment you operate the car in. For example, the B2015 (15lb) All Season has 1067 Pulse Cranking Amps (high discharge intial burst @80 Degrees), 574 Cranking Amp @ 32 Degrees and 425 Cold Cranking Amps @ 0 Degrees This will easily start a 2.5L 4cyl Engine in the winter. This Battery is recommended as an All Season Battery for V6's and small displacement V8's. The factory subaru 55D23L in the wrx and sti battery provides only 400CCA. If you thing you need more power, we also have a 17, 18 and 21 pound extreme use battery.
