I know there was just a group buy but I am not able to get them now I am just wondering what would be a good upgrade in brakes for my 02 wrx so I can start saving for them as my current brakes are getting close to needing attention. I don't rally cross (yet) I just drive very aggressivly. If you are going to use accronyms could you please let me know what they mean as I am not 100% sure on all of them yet. Below is what I am looking to upgrade. Front and rear pads Front and rear rotors Brake lines. I currently have stock rims on it (16inches) Thanks in advance for your input. Bill
I've heard good things about Ferodo and Hawk both. Rotors i know nothing about yet as i haven't needed them yet same with brake lines.
Thats about all you need to do (and some good fluid). You can do the h6 rear upgrade, which gives you a 11.5 in rear rotor. Russ
What is the h6? I am guessing the Ferodo and hawk are pads? My current rotors are warped so I need to replace those, should I just use stockers? or should I upgrade since they need tp be replaced?
Well, I might still be able to get you into our group buy if you like. I have all the prices posted in the thread. As for the h6, the h6 legacy has a larger solid rear disc than the wrx has. So you need to get a couple of caliper brackets and the larger rotors, and you can convert the rear to the larger h6 rear rotor. If you want in on the gb, I would need to know asap. Mark is placing our orders so we can get everything here asap. Russ
Check out Racing Brake for some fabulous products. When I can scrounge up enough money, this is where I'm going shopping. They are on the verge of bringing out some new products for the Subaru family: H6 Kit - Comes with Outback sized rear rotor and the bracket to fit the stock rotor New Larger Front Rotors - They will be offering a new 310mm front rotor to go with their 4pot caliper. This is the biggest they can go and still fit the stock 16" rims. It only leaves about 1/8" clearance, so it might mean remounting weights on the rims instead of inside the wheel. http://www.racingbrake.com Stuart.
I just got this setup of grimm.... basically it is the rotor and bracket for caliper of the subaru legacy H6 version... larger rotor but uses your stock caliper.... get braided lines (wish I got grimms) damn it hah a ha... they fit under stock rims as I am runiing mine again till late april probably unless the warm weather sets in... if you are wanting to save money just go OE replacement level.. I did.. still brakes great... machine the rotors if you can... but I would highly suggest getting the slotted and cryoed ones... again I got grimms ones and they look great.. not as good as readymix's brakes but about 1/4 the price I am sure... ( I love his brakes - actually his car)
What would that set up cost me? and what all is included? pads, rotors? Can I get the brackets from subaru? Is the h6 conversion you are talking about the rear rotors that are on the spread sheet of prices on the gb chart?
to be honest I am not sure... BRian Shorten I thnk works at Subaru.. the brackets arent cheap.. the cryoed rotors aren't either... I am sure to do it all you would be close to $600 - $700 but that is still a third of one of those basic big brake kits... and unless you really intend to pump some power or race seriously I dont htink you need them...
Hey nathan, do you really think the h6 upgrade was really worth the money? I waited buying rear rotor until I decide if I really want to do that upgrade.
Yes, all the prices are on the chart I posted. All the rotors are cryo'd, slotted, and plated. If you want to do the h6 conversion in the rear, you need to talk to Brian and get the caliper brackets, iirc they are around $55 each. Russ
wow that was cheaper for that bracket then when I called the dealer through my business... that definitley makes it worth it... it was worth it for me cause I got a truly sweet deal for everything... I just need to add the braided lines to make it worthwhile
I know someone who might be albe to get you a deal on KVR brake stuff. i dont think they cryo their parts but they are quality.
http://www.stoptech.com/tech_info/wp_warped_brakedisk.shtml I'm going to post this link every time someone says this.
Living proof of this The Warped Rotor Myth is real. When I bought my car in March of last year, the seller told me that the rotors were a bit warped, and could do with replacing. He said it wasn't bad, and mostly only noticeable when slowing down from freeway speeds up/down an off ramp. Now, a year later, my brakes have no juddering at all. Normal use has skimmed off the pad material, and by not keeping my foot on the brake once I'm stopped, I haven't stuck any new junk on my rotors. They've actually been judder free for a few months now, so it's not like it took a full year to get them sorted out. Bye for now, Stuart.
