So after checking around on here to see what dealerships have good reviews, I'm dropping my Forester off at Morrie's in Minnetonka. My only real question is how do I bring up the "MNSubaru discount" I see mentioned here? Say something when I drop it off? I haven't brought my car in there before so I just thought I'd see what the usual procedure is. Thanks
Dealership or stealership? I'd highly recommend the NF shop. They do all sorts of work and are priced so reasonably well that you'd thought you won the lottery. And any issues, Nuke will text back asap to help resolve said issues. Either way, I hope you get your car fixed.
I contacted NF first, but I was hoping to get an alignment (among other things) done and they said they can't do it. I tried!
One stop shopping is actually my priority. Trying to minimize the inconvenience of being without my car.
Your best bet is Morries MTKA. The comment above about 'stealership' is way off base. They have been active on this forum for a decade, members of the service and parts department are here daily. They have always extended the discount on both service and parts here. If you want it done right the first time go to Morries MTKA.
I have never used the term "stealership" as I have always received great service from both the parts and service departments at any of the Subaru dealers I have used. The technicians are very familiar with what they are working on, the OEM parts are guaranteed to fit and function well, and I have never had a repair have to be redone. Are there some shysters out there, sure, (Denny Hecker), but for the most part they are hard working and honest souls just like the rest of us.
So they just called me and it was quite a voicemail. I brought it in because of a grinding sound from the front brakes. (other than that, it was running decent for a 2003 with 140,000 miles) Turns out a caliper was stuck, so they're saying $1400 to replace the calipers, rotors, and pads. $1100 if we do NAPA parts. They also found: Leaking head gasket (no price mentioned) Leaking rear strut ($800-900) Rear wheel bearing wearing out ($900) Saying tires are wearing out (not sure I agree with that) Metal in the tranny fluid ($6000 to replace, but that's not happening) So my day is pretty well ruined.
Sorry to hear that, but most of those items take time, and labor time costs money, no matter where you go. The brake job is actually pretty easy and can be done much cheaper if you buy parts on your own and do the work...but that depends on whether you have the time and tools to do the job. Struts are usually good for approximately 60k miles...so you've gotten pretty good use assuming they are originals. Head gaskets are extremely common on 2.5 NA's. Wheel bearings are also a common wear item. Metal in the tranny...depends on how much and when you last changed your tranny fluid. Does it shift/drive/sound ok? Hard to say without seeing it. If you want to save money on the work and don't want to do the work yourself, talk to NF, RS, or bargain with other knowledgeable members for pizza, beer, tootsie pops, whatever their fancy. Even without seeing the car, I wouldn't say that any of those issues are out of the ordinary give the car and miles.
I would start by sending them a message here or an email. They are normally pretty responsive. http://mnsubaru.com/reviews/nf-performance.41030/
Alright, so in the end, Morrie's treated me well but I couldn't swing the dealer prices (student loans and such). They treated me well and let me use one of their cars for a day, which was great. I had the control arm recall taken care of and my windshield replaced, covered by insurance. Nothing bad to say about them. NF took good care of me for a very reasonable price and we very quick with the work they did. So I'll keep going there for work on my car and probably end up at Morrie's when it comes time to replace my car. Just thought I'd get me experience out there.
OK, I was curious what they thought about the metal in the tranny and the head gasket, hopefully it's not as bad as you thought initially!
Was in need to replace brakes, so that's all we did. Front passenger side had no brake pad left. Driver side was almost there.
