Hey guys. I was changing the temperature in my car (from hot to cool) and the knob broke. Now there is just hot air. LOL! This sucks because spring is coming up. I can turn the vents away and turn it off (put the other gauge on 0), but would like to fix it. Has this happened to anyone? How easy is it to fix? Any help would be appreciated
how did you manage to break teh knob???? i would look into getting a new knob from the dealership and fixing it. i had to run heat in teh spring/summer and it wasnt any fun.
LOL! See, I don't know if the knob got stripped out or what. That is why I'm curious if the knob is what broke or if something inside the dash broke. A week or two ago, it was fine. The time that it broke, the knob was on hot, I tried to rotate it to cool, and there was resistance. I tried again, and then it just broke. When I mean broke, the knob just moves freely, but I can't pull the damn thing off. LOL! Thoughts?
look under your dash, your heat switch/knob will actually be pulling a cable (sleeved in plastic similar to a bike brake cable) follow the cable from your control unit to where it teminates. you should be able to push the lever that the cable was manipulating to change your air from to hot to cold or vis versa. Or just fix the dam thing.... Also: what kinda car are we talking about??
^yeah.. if this is a newer car isnt the climate control all electronic? perhaps you got something like a jelly bean wedged in there or something w/ out knowing. if it is a older car you have some arrangement of steel rods that mechanically move things. a rod could have come unhooked or something.
Its a 2003 WRX MethodlesS - I'll look for that wire and see what happened. Again, I'm not sure if the knob stripped or what. Wasn't sure exactly how the temperature (from cold to hot) works mechanically. Thanks again guys
