Hey anybody on here know how to fix em? I'll gladly pay you for it. Or if not anybody know somebody who does it for a good price? Every company I call wants almost 200 bucks.

    Thanks!

I've used A-Action Garage Door located in Excelsior/Shorewood (nine five two - four seven zero - nine zero five one) a couple of times. It's a small father/son company and I found their rates to be reasonable/fair. GL

Matt, how hard was it to fix yourself? How long did it take?

it took me less the 30 min. there is a lock bolt at the top of that pic on the end of the spring. that's what keeps the spring tight once you wind it up. so all you do it un bolt that side in the middle and pull out that spring and slide your new one in its place bolt it back up. then go down to that end and you should see the cable has a path it needs to fallow. line that up on its path by twisting the bar by hand and spinning it. once that's done i used a c clamp just to hold that bar and keep it from un winding. the go to the spring and start winding it up. i used two long 3/8 extensions. keep winding it up tell it gets tight. once its tight screw that lock bolt in to lock it in its place. if you winded it the right way it should not un wind your cable. if its right it should put load on it. then un lock the door from the garage door opener and lift it up by hand. if its still heavy the go back and wind it up some more. that's all there is too it sis. just be careful when your winding that spring up. make sure the extensions are in deep while your tightening it. you don't want them slipping out. also be for you start check the other side to make sure that has no load on it. both sides work the same so you might have to go from one side to the other, tightening each a little at a time so the spring dont suck up one side of the door.

For the most part its not that difficult as far as I've seen, but it can get dangerous, like alot of other things, if you're not careful. When mine broke I was lucky enough that my wife has a Friend that owns a Garage Door company. A little horse trading of garage repair services for tattoo work and I didn't have to lift a finger.

The above video is basically what was done if you want to give it a go. Good luck

Emergency room bill can easily outweigh savings from not having a pro do it if you aren't careful. Not the kind of garage putzing you do with a beer or three.
