Did a dumb thing and busted one of my top strut mount bolts. How do I go about getting this fixed? I replaced springs myself so is it possible for me to replace these bolts in the top hat myself or is this something a shop needs to do?

From what i've read up on it looks like i'll need to either get a new top hat or just replace the bolt/bolts on the top hat. And somehow press them in.

Anyone else have a similar problem?

    Thanks

    B.P. subaru quote

Just got a $350 quote from B.P. subaru to do the new top hat replacement. Ouch, looks like I might be doing this myself.

Minnetonka has the top hat for $74.22

Any one with suggestions or help for me of any kind?

    Thanks all

    next

    next question is this

One bolt is broke, another looks stressed and one is secure. Is it safe to drive on this? I'm in Maple Grove and i'd have to drive down to Minnetonka Subaru to get the part. Little worried bout the drive.

Also, does Minnetonka subaru have any discounts to mnsubaru members? If so how do I go about getting the discount.

    Thanks again

YES minnetonka subi has the 'mnsubaru' discount on most stuff-just ask for it, on the other hand you could just weld the bitches to your car:slayer:

I imagine you can find dirt cheap stock takeoffs on nasioc pretty easily, but it sounds like you don't have time to wait.

Make sure you have a torque wrench when you put the new one in - the spec for those bolts is only like 14 ft/lbs, which is not much at all.

Yeah I gotta get my car put back together so no time to search for parts on nasioc.

Yup got a torque wrench and it will be used.

yeah I read up on the torque settings and it is fairly light so i'll keep that in mind.

hah i did this on my 93 leggy. My friend just swapped a bilstein into his 98 OBS so the takeoffs are getting thrown away. I just took that tophat and swapped it as they are the same part. I would offer you the other one but im not sure its the same for a WRX. If they are the same let me know and i can give it to you real cheap

    Done and done

Thanks to everyone for the help and for offering up parts.

A huge thanks to illegal2.2 for the new hat and for helping me reinstall the strut while you were here, saved me alot of time.

Took it for a drive and nothing fell apart so all is well.
