no flaming i am irretated! it happened and heres how!

its snowing up here, and so i did a small drift around a corner, hit 2nd and it made a grind sound, so i figure i missed a gear, stopped put it into first....what it wont go into first or second! so finally after mutch hard work i coax it into second then first but it feels really rough doing it not nearly as smooth! but when i do drive the gears feel in tact just bad shifting! mods are tbe, and 17inch wheels with M+S rating!

    warrenty? any ideas?

My car shifts really hard in first and second when the tranny is cold (less than 20 deg). So I'm pretty sure bad synchros can cause that behavior, but I don't think you can ruin two synchros in one missed shift, so a bent shift fork sounds more likely. I'd say run it a bit more then dump your tranny oil and see how much metal shavings there are on the magnet and pour some oil into a glass jar and let it settle out and see how much metal is in it.

    good luck.

    Could be a syncro issue . . .

Well it could be the 1-2 syncro or the 1-2 syncro hub, because first and second gear use the same syncro and hub. How are the shifts into the other gears? aka 2-3, 3-4 etc. That'll help narrow it down a bit. How fast were you going when this happened?

For reasons unknown to me, your problems can occur when you have a bad clutch/pressure plate.

I can shift into the rest fine! just 1 and 2 are gupy! speed maybe 20 or so miles per hour "sideways in a SWEET drift"

Well, since the rest of your shifts are fine that does point to a 1-2 shift component. That I can think of off the top of my head those would be: 1-2 Syncro, 1-2 Syncro Hub, and 1-2 Shift Fork. When a shift fork bends it tends to try and keep sliding the Syncro onto a gear, so if your experiencing normal sounds/feelings in all of your other gearsm I would tend to rule that one out. Unfortunatly either way, it sounds like the trans is gonna have to come out of the car.

    hA!
give it some time and it'll be a little better. You've just worn the syncro out a bit too fast. Let it some time for it to slowly wear that hot spot off. But then again it won't ever feel the same.

syncro worn a little bit, but more like dog teeth worn a bunch. I do wonder if the dealer will warrenty it......hahahaha you pay to play.

    Possibly . . .

Dog teeth went though my mind as well, but that wouldn't explain the hard shifts into both first and second. Because you have a Blocking plate/Dog Teeth on each side of the Syncro, one for the shift into first and another for the shift into second. So it couldn't screw both of them up with a missed shift into Second. Is your vehicle still under warranty?

he told me it still was under warranty, but he needs to take off his DP just to make sure it will still be warrantied (then come to MTK suby and get it fixed) we have 3 master tranny techs
