Never let your friends drive your car. Long story short, I was moving and had to use my buddies pickup. I let him use my car, He was going down CR19 and he flipped the car into the ditch... Supposedly the road was icy but I still find it funny when I arrived there was no ice on the road just a little snow. Heres what it looked like before. That was at the Brainerd Modern Automotive event. Fuji ran the best time with my car. 13.8 in the 1/4.. Now I am looking to rebuild my car. Is there any salvage yards with subarus around? I dont care about color because once I get my car back together I am going to be painting it black anyways. Just thought I'd show my new mods...
Sorry I fixed them. We tried the whole insurance thing and they would not cover it. My insurance denied the claim and dropped me from coverage due to my buddy driving... So I am stuck in a bad spot and I am trying to rebuild it slowly... It'll be done for summer.
Wow, that's no good. I hope he plans to help out with the cost, or at least the labor to get it fixed.
No kidding, I've seen this covered before. Or, you go through HIS insurance, since he should be covered no matter what he is driving. BTW, if he isn't paying for he cost of fixing your car, I'm not even going to tell you what I would do.....
yea that would upset me to no end if a freind of mine took my car off the road and then said well see ya later good luck fixing her up my bad
wow i couldnt think of anything worse to happen. good luck fixing it. like someone else said i would try to go through his insurance, there is no way you have to pay for it all out of pocket!!
On what grounds did your insurance company drop your coverage? Seems like they should have told you to have the claim filed and covered under your friend's insurance. Does your friend have insurance? Anyway, sorry to hear about your loss. That's a really ****ty situation.
I've always been under the impression that as long as anyone has your permission to be driving your vehicle, anything that happens to it while they are driving is covered on your insurance. I know this is how State farm is, because I specifically asked a lot of questions about the subject last winter before I let m GF use my 4 runner all winter.
No, it does not. That is why if you have three cars, you have three policies even though you can only drive one at a time.
did a little research. (a) your insurance SHOULD cover you first, unless you opted to buy ****ty/cheap insurance. (b) If you don't have enough coverage your buddies insurance is SUPPOSED to kick in AFTER yours. (c) your insurance "dropped" you? This was AFTER the accident, right? So you were covered at the time of the accident. Plus: I REALLY want the name of this insurance company.
+1 Yes... what insurance company should I NOT go through? Wow.. I dont think I could drive my "friends" car like an idiot....
Yeah your company is taking advantage of you. Here is the deal, the car is insured as an asset. Your driving record, vehicle, and your credit score determine at what rate you will be charged to insure that asset. Think of it this way, what if the car were stolen and the same thing happened? It would still be covered. If the police caught the thief your insurance company would try and recover the loss in the forum of restitution from the thief. No difference here, your company should cover the asset and persue legal action against your friend to cover the loss on your behalf. That is what insurance is for. Dropping you after the fact means nothing about the coverage at the time of the loss.My best advise it to talk to a qualified Attorney.
car-parts.com has a lot of junkyards' inventories. I found a lot of parts through that site when I was going to purchase a totaled wagon.
that sucks. good luck with everything. and fyi, in MN (and most states) car insurance follows the car and not the driver. now, based on the cause of accident (i.e. *ouche bagging???) they can deny coverage.
Yes if I recall correctly now it was 13.7 LOL Hopefully next time it'll be much quicker I have called my insurance agent and they denied it. I am going threw Allied Insurance. I have had it since I bought my car. However they said that due to him driving the car, He didn't have insurance on him it was on his car. There trying to tell me I am the only one insured to drive my car. I pay almost 280.00 a month for insurance you'd think that I'd be alright. My so called buddy stopped answering calls and messages from me. Hasn't been in contact. Now I am left to rebuild my car and use cash outta my pocket to do so. I have looked around car-part.com. I haven't found to much stuff local unless I am doing it wrong. However I am gonna start here in the next week buying parts to hopefully put my car back together.
Law suit!!! I would have never given the truck keys back, and rented a storage to store the truck in until things were settled. That sucks dude, I would take your "buddy" to court. the repair of your car should cost at most your deductible...
WTF... 1... as has been stated.. seek legal advice.. both against your SO CALLED friend and your insurance agent. 2. Let you insurance agent know that this story and their actions will be posted on every car forum you frequent, and Every social Network as well, informing them that a number of people are already looking at dropping them as an agent due to this... bottom line is the bottom line... they want your money... 3. Police Report/accident reports?? Press charges... you know where your buddy lives right?? then go around and sit in his driveway.. DOCUMENT EVERYTHING.. every time you call him, every time you talk to your insurance agent... talk to the local Law Enforcement guys and see what actions can be taken against the doucebag.. 4. Does this guy live at home?? Talk to his parents then... 5. Take out a small claims suit against him.. if he doesnt turn up then you will win and then the cops get involved...
Dude this really blows! I agree with everyone saying how can a "friend" do something like that to your car?! and that you should keep his truck.. I agree with all this but at the same time dont loose a friendship over the deal. And someones insurance should definatly be covering it.
Here is a search for your drivers door, sometimes that site is a bitch to navigate. It's looking like $450ish (OUCH) but there is a blue one I believe, and it's at Actions Auto Parts in St. Paul. Their number is 1-800-243-2448. Here's their website: http://www.actionautopartsmn.com/ They might have much more of what you need if they have a door, give them a call....not the cheapest I found, but by far the closest. BTW, I assumed your car an 02.....Hope that's correct. A good trick is to search different years with the same body, for some reason sometimes that works better, even though almost all years will pull up in a lot of searches....Hope I helped you out a little....
You need to get a written copy of your policy and look for the section that outlines who they cover driving the insured vehicle. Some policies only cover the driver, some cover the driver and household members and others can cover anyone you directly gave the keys. The only way to tell for sure is to read the policy.
When i asked state farm a while back to add my gf as a driver on my policy, so she could drive my car for a while, they said no need, my policy would cover her as is, even though she did not live in my house at the time, so wasnt part of the household. Sounds like Allied is either trying to scam their way out of paying or they just suck this way in general. You can definitely take your ex-buddy to court if he/his parents (if he's young) refuse to cover this.
it is seriously time to contact an attorney on this one. Don't spend a dime working on the car right now, put it all towards a lawyer to look into two obvious things: 1. Your ****ty insurance agency, and their responsibility in this. agencies witll try and screw you any step of the way, you need to get someone who knows your rights to help you. 2. suing your so called "Friend". if he's ducking you this early on, it's clear that he's going to try and screw you. this should be a pretty cut and dry case for any small claims court, though you may want to bring it to a larger court to allow your lawyer to participate, represent you, and strengthen your case. Small claims court limits are $7000 in the state of MN, and filing only costs $50. higher up courts, i believe civil matters have a $250 dollar filing fee, and have no limit. you can't bring an attorney to small claims.
Okay so I am kinda lost on what to do here. The kid who was driving my car is 21 so there is no reason for his dad to be involved. I talked with my mother and we are going to talk to a family friend who is an attorney. Were going to take him to small claims, I figure if I bring the police report and and all other info plus a witness who seen it happen that I will be able to take this case. It just sucks that I dont have a back up car to drive because between my car payment and insurance thats almost 650.00 a month..... Kinda makes it a little hard to buy a 2nd car... Its gonna take awhile to get my car back together so I guess I'll be with out a car until I can get it fixed. Hopefully I come across someone selling some parts for cheaper then Car-Part.com because I dont really got 450 to dish out for just a door.
i would talk with your insurance company, since obviously you can't drive the car and i'm assuming you have a loan on it, get storage insurance. Its dirt cheap, at least mine was for my car when i parked it for the winter. that should ease up a bit on the out of pocket expenses for something you can't drive until you get this squared away. I still can't believe your insurance isn't going to cover a dime, since like others have posted my g/f drives my car on occasion and they said she doesn't need to be on the insurance as long as she only drives it under a certain percentage of the time. oh and time for new friends that you can trust (or at least have good insurance)
