Alright so I'm pretty sure that this kind of question has been posted over and over again as it has in many other similar forums, but I'm very curious as to what headers you guys are using. What I mostly want from an aftermarket header and uppipe is better flow and gains in power. Unfortunately by getting that equal lenght header, the boxer sound tends to dissapear and that which is usually associated with these great cars is no longer there. So what headers have you guys used that gave you that boost in power and spool time but also provided a good sound?

I've heard that the Maddad semi-equal length is pretty damn good. idget has one if I recall correctly, maybe he can pitch in.

Yeah, lots of options out there. Search for the header comparisons on nasioc.

I can only speak to the MadDad uel header (same as gtspec v2 except the uppipe has a velocity stack in the MD version). Great fitment with the slip joints, no uppipe leak with the 3-bolt design (although gasket choice and pre-fabbed ewg options are limited), and the usual excellent MD quality. No significant peak HP gains, but when I went from tbe to headerback on the wrx, area under the curve was noticeably greater with the header/uppipe. I make some pretty decent torque with same/similar spool as stock on my current set-up:

    07 STI catted headerback exhaust - 270whp 335wtq on 92oct

Here's Rich's post in the vendor review section on nasioc:

I have an Agency Power uneaqual length, and I love the sound it makes...

My thought is that unless your building a time attack car and you need to eeeeek out every last pony, then don't go eaqual length, spool 150 rpm quicker... uhhh cool I guess....

if you don't mind sounding like an EVO.

if you do go in equal length its not like you will be
losing power. You just won't gain as much
but the pay off is that you Get to keep that wonderful sound. If you have an n/a then its really important you go uel or you're really gonn end up sounding like a Honda

NA's with EL headers are more akin to porsches, than hondas. It's still a boxer, not an inline, and that does affect the sound. It's just no longer the sound of bad manifold design.

Another option is to get your exhaust manifold ported and polished by Grimmspeed = more flow with boxer rumblz and cheaper ftw.

actually, typically speaking, an equal length header will yield more power.

and a good exhaust setup with an equal length header can still sound pretty sweet.

yeah it's like there are so many options out there and I really dont know which one to go with. I mean there's Greddy, HKS, Perrin, SSAC, Tomei, agency power, apexi...the options are endless...i dont want poor quality nor do i want **** sound...so i guess i'll look into the aforementioned pieces.

Avoid SSAC. I can't believe people are starting to think those are quality pieces.

Trust me i know. my other car has full SSAC exhaust...it was an amazing deal..but the way they deal with their customers and the unpredictable quality of their products push me away from them. I never planned on getting their products i was simply stating that they were an option out there
