Here is a useful thread if you ever have questions on how much things will cost to ship, anywhere. I will try and explain as detailed as possible, cuz there are some people who will not ask some questions cuz they think its a dumb question, and never really learn.

I wil start off with FEDEX.

Click here for FEDEX pricing page.

*Some directions will be chosen in this thread fort the sake of brevity.

1)Choose what country and zip code you are sending it from.
2)Choose which country and zip code it is going to.
3)It is easier to choose ONE in number of packages, then when you are familiar with the process, then go ahead and try multiple packages.
    4)Enter in weight in Lbs/Kgs.
5)If it is going to a RESIDENCE, click the box. Note: it will be cheaper if you ship to a business, a HOME BUSINESS does not qualify.
    6)Select ship date.
7)Go down to GET DETAILED QUOTE, cuz you need to enter the Length, Width, and Height on the next page. NOTE: No fractions, round up to the nearest inch for the most accurate rate.
    8)Quantity 1.
    9)How much weight in Lbs/Kgs.
10)Select package type. If it is in a regular ol' box select 'Your packaging'.
11)Then there will be Dimensions, Length, Width, Height. Again, round to nearest inch. It goes like this, biggest, medium, and smallest number, in that order. ex. 27x26x12.
12)Declared value is for if you need or want insurance. The automatic amount of Ins. is 100$ on ground and express
    13)Click continue.
14)Regular old Ground will be at the bottom, as Home Delivery if going to a residence, and Ground if Business.
15)There ya go! That is the fast way to get a price, if you have an account then it might be more complex.

AND FedEx does FREIGHT for large parcels!

    Now for UPS.

Here is the link for the UPS pricing calculator.
Basically the same process, eh, kinda.

    The United States Postal Service.
Here is the link for the USPS pricing calculator.
The USPS is great for regular tings. Anything medium(12x12x12) to large(24x24x12) it is cheaper and a better choice to go with FedEx or UPS, 'cept for International items.

    I hope this helped!:cheers2::werd:[IMG]

I use USPS because I only pay shipping from San Francisco to the box's destination. If I were to ship via UPS, FedEx, DHL, what ever I would have to pay from Tokyo to destination. So for me (and others mooching the APO system) USPS FTW!

Also for large items, AmTrak was $68 to ship a 284lb pallet from Oakland to Seattle.

Are you in the Armed Services over seas, if not, how are you getting items shipped APO style? From San Francisco to destination is saving you a butt-load.

Can't ship to APOs with FedEx anyway. Think it may be the same story for UPS too.

I am in the army... for another 14 days YAY!!!!

Best thing if you are making your way to japan is let me know. I have a few friends that are willing to help ;)

ONLY USPS can go through APO. This is a big problem in getting products, most vendors will not ship USPS.

13 more days! Grats man! How or what did you choose to do to be sent to Japan? Just curious, my cousin was sent out to South Korea from Ft. Hood, TX. He was an engineer... But what to do to get to Japan?!

I was 63 days short when my company got orders to Iraq, so I fell under stop-loss/stop-movement until 90 days after redeployment. So my final day was moved from 03Jan04 to 09May05 IF I wasn't extended in Iraq to 18mo tour. My job, apartment, and whole life I had waiting for my final out fell through because I was not allowed to leave at the end of my contract.

Note: I was not avoiding war, I volunteered for Afganastan twice, but my company was on orders to work in the camp in GTMO. I had already been to Kosovo for a year, and pulled personal security detail for a number of months prior and post 9-11...it was just my time to get out.

I studied my options and situation and it was prudent of me to reenlist for another stint. At the time the Army was offering a 1.5A bonus that was tax free because of being in the combat zone. I told them that I wanted to reclass (new job) or I wanted 1.5A with station of choice at Camp Zama, Japan. Because I am an MP and a very understrength specialty they gave it to me. The reenlistment required one year stabilization in the current unit, but as I was stop-loss/stop-movement I wasn't going anywhere anyway so it seemed a logical decision. I signed for 4 years (1 in current 3 in Japan) to make the required 3yr stabilization in Japan (2yrs unmarried, 3yrs married) netted a nice lump of cash in the bank, and dodged bullets and IED's for the rest of my tour. I got back to Ft. Lewis, Wa where I was stationed, waived my 90 day stabilization after redeployment, grabbed up my wife and our belongings and got the hell out of there.

If he is an engineer I doubt he will be able to come to Japan without reclass. We don't have any 12-series on Zama's 7 tenant bases, and I don't think any on Torii (Okinawa) either. We are a small cluster of bases specializing in logistical support for the pacific region, vehicle repair, and forward staging point for named operations in Korea (if the balloon goes up).

It's interesting you should post this because I am actually looking for a shipping company to ship a car I'm purchasing in Seattle, WA. Initially I had planned on driving it home like a friend of mine who flew out to WA and drove his Atom back to MN. All the transport companies I have found offered to do it for $600-$900 including insurance. With 3-7 business days from door to door delievery.

So I will be flying out to WA at the end of this month to inspect, test drive and very likely purchase my first 240sx and have it shipped home since the seller has gracious offered to help pay for the shipping to avoid any hazards while driving back home. My plan is to get the car at BIR in May and than start tuning the suspension for Oct BIR Short track!

So my question is does anyone know of any reliable resources who can help in my situation other than what I've found on the Internet?

Nice! I'm glad to have been informative for a Newb.

Also, there is a company called [IMG]
Click here for FreightQuote. They mostly deal in anything that is crated, on a pallet, or generally over the size limits for a regular ground service. NOTE: You need to make an account and register to get a quote from this company.

I wish I could give you my discount with them but they are really strict about using it for Custom Critical shipments. They still do a great job though. Essentially FedEx for cars door-to-door: pricey, but you get what you pay for.
